I think it's awesome-o, my only issue is I don't really like the job system, it's a bit annoying. Other than that, top game.

Job system is the most grind-o-matic in any RPG.

Round 1:

Round 2:

Round 3:

Round 4:

Round 5:

ATTACK

Everyone gets a job level. Do this against lvl1 enemies. It makes no difference.

Repeat for 8 hours.

Play the game for two hours until you get new jobs.

Grind again...

REPEAT !!!

Still enjoyed it :)

Wij you might know this then - I've just retrained one of my chaps to be a Scholar and equipped him with a couple of books that do fire/lightning damage. For some reason when I go to use the magic spell side of them I can't. I figured this is because I'm only about job level 15 with him now and as such probably not high enough to do the spells. There's nothing that indicates this though, 's just a hunch. Any ideas? If it is a level restriction, any way I can find out when I'll be able to use it?

Depends what level the spells are. Scholar can only do up to lvl 3 black and white magic. He can't do lvl 3 until job lvl 31 though.

Tbh, scholar is a crap caster. His main use is revealing weaknesses and using attack items (the ones in the bags.) He does double damage with those.

If you just want a general caster for early game then red mages are better.

Geomancers rock too :)

FF3 is pretty good, but the job system is annoying, that is true. I've just bought Children of Mana, which I'm enjoying more. Hammering A is more fun than selecting guard. ;)

Yeah only reason I've got the scholar is to use his study command, plus his 3 levels of magic won't hurt to have an additional backup cure/cura. Having said that, so none of my casters (even my black mage) are used for damage dealing really. I'm level 22ish with my characters and my black mage does about 1000 damage per level 3 spell (if the enemy has a weakness) but my warrior does about 3-4000 damage per advance. Plus, I've got a weapon that steals health so I get back about 300 health per attack.

I'll check out Geomancer once it becomes available - the only other one that appeals is Summoner. Problem is, once you respec it takes fucking ages to get back up to an acceptable level to continue with the game.

Oh and will I'll definitely be checking out children of mana.

You need Monks and BlackBelts for damage AND for swapping jobs to just before lvl up to get the most HP.

Theifs are needed to get some of the best items too. Face it, you are going to HAVE to grind a lot to get the most out of the game :)
