Great that no one's mentioning the Saturn games.. Virtua Fighter etc ;)

Cause Virtua Fighter is one of the biggest loads of garbage ever made. I'd rather play the original Tekken. Hell, I'd rather play Battle Arena Toshinden (One of the launch titles on the Playstation and an incredibly slow fighting game that was quickly beaten by Soul Blade/Edge) than the first Virtua Fighter.

LOL Golden Axe was top drawer.

But Double Dragon was the quintessential beat em up :D

Both very good games, but Streets Of Rage 2 is on another level compared to either. However the arcade version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles deserves a very honourable mention here as that was some thing special too.

^^ completely agree on those, streets of rage2 kept me busy for hours and hours, and the original turtles beat em up was class also

battle arena was revolutionary at the time, i had that and a tekken demo from one of them magazines and it was immense!

battle toads vs dragon ninja, that was a game on the nes- v much like streets of rage which was fairly awesome as well.

seriously pick up a few emulators, even for nostalgic reasons you can waste a good few hours, and theres always fun to be had on the metal slug series on MAME
