Faulty Memory ?

Hi all

My PC recently has started to return to the desktop when I am on CS or other games. That’s it just goes to the desktop and sits there as if I have loaded windows up. I have spoke to several people and they have mentioned faulty memory. I was wondering if I should
1) Replace memory with 512Mb DDR and
2) Install XP on my machine.

What do you think?

My system
AMD Athlon XP1700+
20Gb Hard Disk
128Mb DDR
Geforce 4 64 Mb Graphics card
MSI Motherboard, (Forgot which Im at work)
Windows 98 SE

if you're going to install XP you'd better get more ram. if you're not going to install XP getting more ram would be "nice"

Hmmm yeh I hope to get a stable system!!!!

What mem would you reccomend?

256MB is a comfortable minimum, though aim for 512MB if money permits. I've recently upgraded to 1GB from 512MB and tbh I've not noticed a difference.

Summo vote = 512MB and Win XP, though I'm not convinced that the dump to desktop is caused by your memory.
