you watching Operation Jericho on BBC2 as well mate? It's not hitting me as hard as the Spitfire documentary, but there is much more technical and ops info in this one. Very interesting!

It was pretty awesome tbh. Like said, not as sentimental as the Spitfire docu, but more gritty.
codebreakers of Bletchley Park later on iirc :)

I missed the earlier programme but caught the Bletchley Park doc, interesting stuff. I've only just worked my way through the World at War series from the 70's - it's only taken me about 3 months. :\

The ultimate WW2 documentary really. At the time they said they were making it before the people involed were all gone - it's great how they interview generals and soldiers from both sides, not just ours.

Karl Wolff's interviews were particularly interesting, I thought.

My dad insisted we watched this series, I think it was aired on sunday nights, in the 70's when it came out.

The very last episode concentrates on the German massacre at Oradour-Sur-Glane, where they killed everyone in the village during the retreat from Normandy. The French have just left the village as it is, to this day, as a memorial.

The last dialogue just says "remember" , and so we should.

Yep I watched some of it when I was at school. The deserted Oradour-sur-Glane was shown at the very start of the first episode as well.

I got the restored bluray set for my birthday, its epic and there is so much bonus content (like loads of interview material that they had to cut from the main series, 2 extra episodes about Auschwitz, making of stuff, restoring and hd'ising - mucho controversy about cropping from 4:3 full frame to 16:9). See the bottom of the review for the full list. Highly recommended, they did a fantastic job with the restoration (I remember watching it on some scratchy old played-to-death VHS tapes back in school).
