re your column.

just a FYI that i'm sure you're aware of but for linux firewall configuration i've always used the pmfirewall script. I've found it to be pretty good for a novice user and very configurable scripts for the more advanced.

i would recomend it to anyone : http://www.pmfirewall.com/

the only issue i've had with it, is that using the default config it doesn't work with iptables which replaces ipchains totally in SuSe7 and the 2.4 kernal.

i've used it with RH6 & 7 though to extreemly good effect.

thanks for your comment :)

yes, I'm aware of pmfw [and have used it too, when I still did the 2.x.x kernels] and tho it has some plusses, I chose gShield over it. I chanced on the script while thinking about making an iptables based one myself and stuck with it cos I'm a lazy bast :D
I like it cos it's a 'fire and forget' kind of thing with minimal 'knobs and bells'. Configuration is a simple matter and Godot's comments make it even easier.
