Damn game companies to hell.
You could spend years waiting for a game, but when they finally release you know that another company is gonna be developing one that's even better. Attention spans are shortening across the globe
This is why I believe games will become less focused on re-playability and be designed more for short-term impact. EA have really set the ball rolling with their crappy little bf1942 "expansion." Sad really, with so many great games coming out all the time it'll be hard to spot those that really excel. If Freelancer came out 10 years ago it'd be groundbreaking stuff... now it's just "Wow that's great.... what's next?"

hmm... not enough variety imo. it all gets a bit samey after a few days. not something u want happening from a game u bought.
i havent played sp so i wouldnt know anything about the story, but theres nothing much left to do in mp :/

I completed Freelancer last night, well the single player 'scripted' story. Took me 2 nights, then once that was done, I flew around for about 4 hours just messing about before I realised I had seen pretty much everything the game had to offer. Once you have finished the main storyline, your like level 18. There is one ship you need to be level 24 to buy, I did that bought the ship, kicked a bit of ass then quit...
To be fair though for a single player game its pretty neat and the cutscenes/storyline are awsome. Not much lasting appeal though.
Downloading the EVE beta at the moment, i'm expecting great things. But hype can be the downfall of a good game
PS: It ran as smooth as ice on my TBird 1.4 / GF4Ti4600, with all the settings on max .. plus my processor is a bit borked and I have to run it at 1.3 to stop it blowing up.

Yeah 5 years seems a bit extreme for a game that takes 2 days to complete. But to be fair it is incredibly polished, they should have spent another year adding in better missions once you have completed the main storyline.
Like you go to a base and get approached by someone who tells you co-ordinates to a new system or something and you have to do a few missions to get a cool ass new ship or something.
Just nice missions like that, I get carpal tunnel doing the same search and destroy crap over and over.
Most fun thing to do once you have completed it is to go back to the starting place in your rock hard ship and blow up everything. They will end up hating you but destroying wave after wave of military/police ships and not getting scratched is kinda fun.
