FAO: TDC & other NWN players...

Yeah it could've gone in the NWN forum, but it's dead in there so ner.

Anyhows, TDC and I played some NWN together a few nights ago, and had a good laugh, so we were gonna have another go, with a proper module this time. We played the other night using Ch. 2 of the Official Campaign, but the OC smells a bit like wee tbh, so I said I'd try and hunt out some possible alternatives that neither of us has played through before.

That's just some I've downloaded, but I've to look at them yet. They're all highly rated according to the NWN Vault, and if you (or anyone) has any other suggestions for another module, then feel free.

Uh, yeah, let me know if you're upto anything interesting. I've become a bit disillusioned with NWN due to its limitations but I'd like to give a good group game a go for sure.

Much as I enjoyed the single player, I never *cough officially cough* owned the game. Are the campaigns worth the money? I do need a new obsession. Obviously Bym's gonna be mildly prejudiced (NWN mod n all...)

I can imagine that some of the player made modules could be great, in the same way that badly made horror films are.

I've heard plenty of people praising the Penultima series. I've only played the first one but it was a laugh. They are classed as City Adventure/Humorous-Parody.

Yeah Penultima is pretty popular, but I was hoping to get something that would allow newly rolled characters to play, as I would've personally liked to create a new character, and use it solely for these sessions, and watch him/her build in stature over time.

But if others wanna jump right in with a level 9/10 char, then I can roll up a new char to that level pretty easily.

So far the roll call is:

The idea is to role play as a party, but not be too strict on the whole talking in char thing - TdC and I were mainly taking the piss the other night during the conversations with Aribeth etc.

And the person with the highest upload speed can host the server btw

count me in, caroline may too depending what time she gets back from oop norf. Can't host as there are three firewalls between my network and the outside world and the first has no DMZ :/

I'll have to check what the bandwidth requirements are per person on a NWN server, as I only have a 128k upload speed thanks to Mr NTL

Someone's bound to have a better u/l speed than that?

Not at all. Anyone with the minimum system specs and a decent modem can host a game and become a server. 'Server' simply refers to the computer that launched the gaming session. Remember, while most Dungeon Masters will run their own servers, you don't have to be a Dungeon Master to do so. Anyone, including DMs and players, can use their computer as a server.

Any home computer conforming to our minimum system specifications will be able to act as a Neverwinter Nights server. The number of players that your server can support is primarily limited by your bandwidth. A basic 56k modem will support approximately 2 players, while LANs and dedicated servers with faster connections will likely be able to support up to the 64 client limit.

So 128 u/l will support 4 clients - so we'll need someone on ADSL with a 256k u/l speed if we're to have 8 ppl playing...

Ok. Everyone interested in playing, be in #bw-nwn tomorrow night about 8pm, and we'll dish out the IP and server password.

Xav has kindly offered to run a dedicated server for us, and he and Bym will be connecting over their lan, so we have enough bw for about 7-8 ppl besides them, meaning about 9-10 ppl should be able to play comfortably.

I bought it for £40 when it first came out and couldn't be arsed to play past chapter 2.

Don't even have it installed anymore.
