I realise that it's utter shite wtf else is there to watch on a saturday night while you're having a quiet night in?

You know they will only release about 2 songs and disappear, seems most of the time to loosers make better records.

this is unbiased:

Gareth gates - lost, enjoying more success than Will young, as unto Darius.
Liberty X - These steamrolled the other band that actually won.

It seems the judges cant tell their arses from their elbow since the loosers always tend to come out better.

It's all totally contrived. Did anyone else get the impression she was acting at points during the whole series? and that she didn't really looked that impressed/surprised/happy about it?

Alex can't sing for toss, she's totally flat with a voice that's fucking boring and I'm sure she'll disappear by the time the next fame academy comes along. The turnover and demand for something new will always drive the manufactured pop business - where's Will Young? Where's David Sneddon? I never hear a thing about them anymore.

A million pound record deal doesn't matter a shit and isn't as remotely impressive as it sounds. The volume of music she'll have to sell (of probably material that has been written for her) to recoup that million: she'll be lucky to break even, let alone ever receive a royalty cheque.

I read in my girlfriend's magazine that Gareth Gates only made £30k last year: hardly retirement money or what i'd call a killing considering the fame, the albums and singles sold.

Pop Idol, Fame Academy - it's all a load of bollocks. What's entertaining is Simon Cowell ripping this piss out of people with over inflated opinions on their singing.

Whether I've mellowed out or what, I don't put up as much of a mental protest to these things than I used to, I guess it's too much effort. It is also on in the background in student land, due to there being now other Saturday TV, and Fame Academy is infinitely better than Pop Idol.

To be honest, good luck to them, they've got more chance of influencing their career coming out of Fame Academy than Pop Idol, and it does attract a more individual breed.

And yeah, I'd rather the industry stopped suing customers and holding talent shows and invested the money in bands that I'm going to like instead, but I can't get myself worked up about it, when (on this occasion at least), the winner did stand out from the norm.

Regarding Alex, I'm not overly keen on her voice - but it is unique and people will enjoy the variety that might bring (depending on the songs she gets). Also, before the barrage of "she can't sing!111 she's a talentless puppet!111admin!!fs!" arrives, it should probably be said that she can. You may not like her voice, but she does sing.

As for sinking without trace, maybe. I don't think she will have a great career, but she'll get something to talk about for at least a few years.

I can't see the Peter bloke making it very far, not immediately anyway. He's an indie boy, and despite his good voice, his potential audience will have rejected him already just for taking part.

As I say, good luck to them, though I can't see myself buying their records.

I've been watching both and frankly, I'm not sure why. I think I'm just curious as to what songs people choose because I couldn't care less who won. That said Pop Idol Extra fills up three boring hours between midnight and 3am.

No, he's a pseudo indie boy, he was there to appeal to those types of people who think REM and Colplay are indie music. He wasn't there because he enjoys wearing duffle coats and hunting Oxfam Recordshops for Dinosaur Jr 7", he was there because he looked pretty, and had funny hair.

Yeah, that is I expect part of the reason that he was voted through, as I say, his preferred audience aren't going to be Fame Academy hardcores, but if someone said to him: Do you want to be in Steps or The Libertines?, his choice would be fairly sharp.

And David Sneddon did get a surname when he got his deal.

There's plenty of things you can criticise these programs for, but yet people still manage to come up with the most twatish things to say about it.
