Fame Academy (sorry)

I've been watching this turdy show on BBC1 for a while and I don't know if any of you see it as well, but seriously ... the people on it have NO talent. I'm not a fan of pop, but i'd at least expect the "wannabe pop stars" to be able to sing.

In particular, Malachi (sp?) sings through his nose and Ainslie? is a retarded spaz.

</rant>

Sorry for starting a thread on a turdy subject.

I'd have to disagree with you. Sinead is incredibly talented, Lamarr (SP?) has a truly amazing voice. Ainslie has a wonderful character which means that singing flat doesn't matter and actually writes great songs.

As much as I dislike finding 'talent' like this, their way of doing it is a lot better than ITVs. FA seems more concerned with grooming individual talents, rather than seeking people who fit a niche like Ppstars did.

I'm with Scooba on this one. I hate manufactured pop as a general rule, it makes my eye twitch and summons dreams of assassinations, but Fame Academy is pretty cool.

At the beginning I wanted to hate it, and I pretty much succeeded. The first episode managed to sound like a talent contest at Butlins, and it hurt, but now it's actually quite good. Lamarr is a complete natural, he harmonises effortlessly, totally plays the crowd, has a strong personal style and has pretty much got it made in my opinion. I wouldn't buy his records, its not my type of thing, but I respect talent when I see it.

Ainsley, if he'd been around in the early nineties as an artist at the same time as the Levellers, James, early Blur, I think he'd have been a household name by default. I think he's original, got a quirky voice, and he can write tunes as well as lyrics, so fair play to him.

Fame Academy has managed to find people with individual style as well as individual personalities, and I think what I see on there is more exciting than half the things coming through TOTPs. Blazin Squad?!? Give me a fucking flame thrower, and I'll make at least half the name make sense.

I finally understood tonight the idea behind the name Blazin' Squad. Its because there's like a city of them.
I'd go as far as guessing that Blazin' is simply their home town, to which they pay homage.

And I really can't understand how it could be considered butchered.

I agree with Scooba as well. There are a few people there with talent. I am pleased to see that these people are encouraged to produce their own material...especially with regards to writing their own songs. And also play some sort of musical instrument.

I think that Sinead girl sings very well indeed.

As people have mentioned .. Blazin Squad ... what a load of F**K*N Crap!. Aint Charlotte Church going out with one if these dicks?

I unfortunatley had the displeasure of watching them on ToTp the other night .. I was waiting to watch Coldplay which I missed :( because I was headbutting the wall to end the pain & suffering :)

They were rhyming like Vanilla Ice and dancing like Milli Vanilli, I think they should be shot at point blank, wannabe east coast MoFo's.

I reckon Bob Monkhouse could do a better one-two step than them F**K**RS.

Who on gods earth and in their right mind would pay to listen to this sh*t?!

ToTp is crap

/End major rant

What happened to all the "real bands" back in the days of Alternative when it was mainstream?

Peace and love

Didnt make sense did it :p

What I mean is that back in the 90's you had alternative/indie bands like Blur, Levellers, Oasis etc hitting the charts and becoming mainstream music and was for a few good years .. that was listenable but not this shit they play on tv/radio now with over-rated pop-tarts which has now taken over the entrie record industry.

For a classic example, Blazin Squad .. what a load of crap this is.

/begin sarcasm

Cheers Pete waterman, Louis and other plebs for the introduction of this wonderful & talented music

/end sarcasm

but I must thank Pete for Kylie's ass! :)

Thankgod for X-FM 104.9

Now that is a superb band IMO. Seen them live a few times and they do rock.

The charts are a mishmash of 'Pop' and rawk. With a hint of trashy dance music.
Aside from the inclusion of dance, nothing has changed for fifty years.

I've not seen Fame Academy much, so I could possibly comment on the ladies situation.

I think ToTp should get Cannibal Corpse on. That would liven things up a little ;)

It's all cyclic, the early 90s were a reaction to manufactured pop that dominated vefore. Right now there's a massive 'rawk' resurgence, new albums from Feeder (dunno, mayby not really rock, but enough to make a chart significance, and deffo 'alternative'), the new QOTSA album will spawn at least 2 more singles, Incubus have a new single due out in a month. In some ways music now is a lot more...exciting than it has been in the past, looking chartwise. Of course, if you are truly into alternative music it doesn't begin to matter to you as you'll carry on getting music from exactly the same places you always did.

In some ways the lack of truly alternative stuff makes discovering new exciting bands all the more exciting.
