Fallout 3 (and New vegas i suppose).

Long rant, after ------ turns to new vegas. More of a rant about very hard mode this

Soooo. Rehashing my Fallout addiction(didn't even finish fallout 3 yet, too much fun with different specs) and this time i started a new with very hard and a goal on completion in the next 500 hours(in time for new vegas).

Very hard(on pc atleast) turns the game from "casual shootey post apocalypse fun" to "Oh shit oh shit! Aa! This thing is nibbling my pants off!!". And that's just on the way to megaton if you get a bit lost

Ammo has to be used sparely..sparsly..savingly! Stimpacks are a must and especially since i made a science, luck, charisma style character, i'm mroe running then charging. IT's great fun when you use 2 hours to infiltrate the first raider spot. In essence; i suggest anyone owning it, go very hard(and stick with it and TRY not to die, not just run in, load, try, saveload, etc) as it makes the game a real survival game. And with all the hairpulling, heavy breathing and...sounds like sex..hmm...anger issues..yeap..sex...it's fun as hell.

As said, i'm such a loose cannon with my characters that my last character was level 20 before i got to the radio station. This time i'm thinking of actually finishing with time. (Then maybe get some add-ons, or get them tomorrow, anyhoo).

Now then, rant over, on to Vegas.

Anyone getting?(I sure as hell am), waiting like a new moon. Especially since it should be "as big as if not bigger" then 1.

One question though, anyone know if it's a full reset or is there a character transfer on it?

Oh yeah, very hard mode comes even mroe fun if you don't make your character "optimised for combat" and leave things like strength and endurance to low'ish (kinda like making your self in there).

New vegas, maybe most waited feature, should be the realism mdoe which -finally- brings amoweight back

Well seems no character transfer, new threads, new dudes and dudettes. Now problem there really.

Only thing is considering not to buy add-ons to fallout 3 since vegas is out soon.

I am looking forward to the realism 'Hardcore' mode in Vegas. I got a bored with Fallout 3, mainly because it wasn't challenging enough and felt like a mod for Oblivion, plus the fact GFWL was such a pain to deal with, messing up my save games and not letting me play because of connection issues. But from what I have seen from Vegas they have learnt there lessons and making a proper Fallout game.

Was a bit dissapointed by F3, but I had it coming as Im not really a fan of futuristic sci-fi stuffs. Good for a playthrough every now and then though! Everyones been raving about New vegas, I imagine it will be better than the other dlc's?

I loved the old fallouts but after playing fallout 3 for a day or so i just uninstalled it and sold it... i'd played oblivion to death previously which probably didnt help given they used the same engine :/ shame really.

Just when i thought very hard couldn't get any worse(what with your damage being 50% and enemy at 200% ), the scenario unfolds;

Arrive at a few tipped over traincarts.
Me and dogmeat take out the two super mutants as per usual.
Dogmeat crowls, i notice a red marker and turn around to see a romping stomping behemoth for f*cks sake!

Dogmeat bites it and i enter a long battle of bottlecap mines, lots of running my arse off and shooty thing.

The behemoth took out two hunters while rampaging around, but i finally avenged my poor doggie.

Bury the dog, leave a few frag mines to protect the holy ground and say a final RIP to the bestest friend i had.

Yeah, but it's no longer fun

Try making yourself a 7 year old and see the game turn from a post-apoc survival into something really weird

Dogmeat dying ofcourse wouldn't be a problem if the AI system worked a bit better in Fallout 3;

First - lot of NPC who could be AI you could seduce, hire, etc, voice and all there already.
Second - From fallout 2 -> proximity. Stay close, snipe, attack, how to use chems etc.

You can continue if you fork out for one of the DLC's can't remember which one, I wasn't interested in any of them. The new Hardcore mode in Vegas is the only hook wanting me to buy it.

Brotherhood of steel add-on gives 10 more levels, more content and ability to return.

Operation anchorage is a fun add-on(unexpected style), don't want to spoil anything ofcourse.

You should be able to get the add-ons very cheap these days, but those two are worth having for sure.

Theres a good few un's, like the one where it makes everything less green, Marts Mutant Mod is good as well.

I did install the Space Marine mod was interesting as well as turning some of the creatures into Nids, The chainsword was a welcome addition.

Seriously, these game bugs start to tire me alot now. First off, whenever I try to patch the game(Either to 1.6 or 1.7), the game crashes on startup(It does not do this before I patch).

Second off, if I install the Broken Steel DLC(This inn version 1.5), I can't complete the game, because that stupid chick does not follow me into the controll room!

I got no freaking idea what to do, and have already broken two keyboards! I've tried to google the answers, reading all sorts of bugs, but can't find anything about game crashes at startup because of patching.

If your graphics card drivers are up to date then your best bet is to back up your save games and re-install.

Though there used to be a bug with sound drivers and certain radio stations, does it crash if you have all radio turned off? Best to check your sound drivers, especially if you are running an X-FI card. Sounds daft but turning the radio stations off worked for me.

Ran all the problems people have had with the soundcard thingy, and that have not been the issue. I have also reinstalled the game 12 times already.

Before I patched the game, I completed the game without any serious problems. It's after I try to patch the game, that the game crashes at the start up window.

From the internets;

"If you are having problems with the 1.7 Patch, then you're using "Game of the Year Edition".

To fix it, uninstall Fallout 3 by inserting DVD1 and running setup, selecting remove (you will have the option to keep your saved games!).

Then goto Control Panel>Programs and Features (for Windows 7 users). On the left you will see "Turn Windows Features On or Off" - click it. Click on the [+] box next to Windows .NET Framework 3.5.1 to expand the selection and tick the two empty boxes that appear. The click OK and wait patiently until it silently installs the required features.


Once the installation is removed and you've updated the .NET framework, run setup again from DVD1 to create a clean installation. Choose a SIMPLE installation rather than custom. When this has completed, do not run the game.

Insert DVD2 and run setup. When this has completed, run the patch making sure you have dowloaded the correct one (I'm using the UK version of the game so I use the UK patch!).

WHen the patch has installed it will exit. Cancel any other messages.

Re-insert DVD1 and select Fallout 3 from Start Menu>Games.

All done and dusted! "

Also i would like to add that the BABE mod is awesome

Not to mention animated prostitutes, but that takes it a bit far...

God, for "%¤% sake. After almost 3 days off doing absolutely everything. I find out that I have to turn my windows 7 theme too basic!

Sooo many hours spent, and it was one freaking simple solution. aaaarg!

Eye mod.
Classic guns mod.
Energy weapon mod.

Mannequins, street lamps, pitch black nights e...t...c

It's just so much better.

Thinking of also adding a XP hinderer because after you finish megaton, you're at 15 at least with very hard.
