Hi there, I've recently returned to DAoC and seem to be having awkward problems. None of these problems were in 1.59 btw, only started with the new 1.60...

Firstly I have a 2400+ athy
pc 2700 512mb
gf4 ti4200
dets 43.45 installed

Okay... onto the problem. I play DAoC windowed and in 1600x1200 res (same as desktop with 32true colours). Ingame every time I get to a big fps area, such as (You have entered a new region) as big as Jordheim/Sasvud/Vind Faste and so on... My middle connection bar goes red for a while... all goes back to green and then I LD. I usually know something is wrong when I get to the doors and the chat interface isn't recognising me trying to open the doors.

Please help if you guys have any info on this problem :(

oooh edit: NTL 1mb Standalone cable
stuff in sys tray: sound/daemon tools/msn/grisoft AV/Zonealarm
Hope this might help further diagnosis

Make sure your AV program isnt running a continuous scan, that can cause SEVERE problems with PC stability in general.

Other than that, I am not sure mate. You could try lowering the resolution a bit as, while I dont mean this as an insult, your video card really isnt blessed with the ability to run Camelot at 1600x1200 reliably. Since the resolution is very very high it might be taking resources away from the rest of your computer which could be causing your lag problems. Don't quote me on this however, as it's really only speculation.

Out of curiosity, what operating system are you using and what make of motherboard are you using? Also, are you on broadband or 56k?

Sorry for not being much help.

EDIT: Missed your edit, I'm on the same speed net connection from NTL and not suffering from any problems but I'm connected via a Set-Top Box rather than a standalone cable modem.

Check your modem settings, make sure your drivers are up to date, etc. Check the resources too to make sure that there are no conflicting devices.

Best I can think of atm mate, sorry again ;)

Hiya mate thanks for the reply, I have actually found that there's something wrong with the antivirus program i'm using (grisoft) so I'm going to take that off for a start.

The modem is just plug and play afaik so I'm not sure if I can update any drivers for it (please NTL Standalone Cablemodem users correct me if I'm wrong).

And yes F.I.V although 1600x1200 is high, I played with all high detail and the exact same settings in 1.59 SI. Never had a single problem mate, even zergs in emain etc didn't affect me bigscale... of course there was the initial lag but it was playable unlike relic raids and so on.

I've had a few suggestions of guildies in irc, I guess this is going to be a trial and error thing. :|

Again thanks for your reply :)

Saw a similar problem on a friends comp - try uninstalling Zonealarm and then try DAoC again.

If this fixes it, try a different personal firewall such as Tiny Firewall.

If your CM with ntl is on USB then get it the hell off, its a really poor second to using your CM thro a network card. USB Eats CPU cycles and does not help a damn thing.

Also if you have a VIA chipset on your motherboard then the Motorola, Teryon and Ambit (badged as ntl:home 100/120) have fairly big problems with the usb on those chipsets

Well guys I installed sp4, some mother board updates and a new directx version from the Windows Update site and didn't LD in sasvud/aegir for the first time in 5 days. So I'm assuming (till I repost :p) that the error is fixed.

Thanks for your suggestions and help.
