Help External Hardrive

So I have on that only connects to my laptop atm but Im thinking of getting one that can connect to a tv (when looking online). My question is how do you differenciate between one that can hook up to a tv and one that cant? also the ones that can, do they only work on newer tv's?

If your TV has USB you will need to check the instructions to see if it supports playing media from a harddisk. If it does not you can use a device like this to mount your USB harddisk so it plays on your TV.
