ok i'm missing my explorer.exe in windows folder so nothing is showing up on my desxtop no taskbar icon anything is there any way to get one with out using the restore option i'm using xp pro thanks

You could try copying it from another xp machine. I'd be more concerned as to why it's gone tbh

I say your fucked try and scan disk from windows install cd go to repair console > once in type > CHKDSK /P. Try search windows site for stuff and then last option try and repair windows from the disk better then formating if you cant be arsed with doing it all again.
