Everytime I join ANY Q3A server, I spawn and instantly get a "Connection Interrupted" message and the Icon bottom right.

I am frozen in place and it stays like that.
When I exit the game I have also lost my DNS as anything open, Like ICQ & MIRC try to connect again and fail.

Its like Q3A is blowing my Internet connection.
I am still connected but basically cannot do anything.
If I disconnect and connect again I can browse and load ICQ etc

Explain that one ?

Single Channel ISDN using Worldonline as ISP.

I can play HL online (Although ISP is crud lately with latency)

Wierd how Q3 though requires a reconnect to do anything with net.

Plays ok on Single player.

Post your config in here and let's have a shufty at it then :)

Although initially it sounds like ISP problems...

if you have an autoexec then remove any of the network settings and try again.

also make sure you have the latest oatch for whatever mod you are trying to connect to.

/seta rate 5000
/seta snaps 20
/seta cl_maxpackets 30 (maybe 40, but your isp aint great)

I have _exactly_ the same problem. My setup is as follows (I have been building and setting up my own PCs for 7+ years):

HARDWARE
--------------
PIII 1ghz, 512mb, geForce2 GTS Pro 64Mb, SBLive! Value, Asuscom ISDN card on BT Home Highway.

OS
----
Fresh Win98SE install
Windows critical updates patch
Latest 23.11 NVidia detonator driver release (non beta)
Latest SBLive! driver
Latest v3.7.0 Asuscom driver

Quake3
----------
Installed from CD
Patched to v1.31 using the 26Mb full update patch

I can connect and stay connected to any server just fine but as soon as I exec my cfg (see next post for cfg), come out of the game and try to go back in I get the exact same disconnection prob described above.

I've tried a number of different ISPs (Freeserve, Eidosnet, Barrysworld) and all have the same problem.

Please see next post for my cfg. I copied most of this cfg from one I found on the 'net so in theory there's nothing wrong but maybe one of you guru's can give it a look - i'd appreciate it :)

Cheers

Errrrrrr ?? loooool

If u need to reconnect ,,when entering an OSP server,
then probably its your OSP,cfg settings that are at fault.
Try reading the osp docs,,But if your lazy read on ))

etting restrictions
====================
The following settings are enforced for internet play:

r_lodcurveerror must be set to 250
r_subdivisions must be no greater than 80
cl_znear must be set to 4
cl_shownormals must be set to 0
cl_showtris must be set to 0

If you have settings that violate any of these rules, OSP will reset the
faulty variable to an acceptable setting and issue a vid_restart. A side-
effect of this will mean that maps may appear to load more than once
upon connecting to a server.

Other clamps:

cg_bobup clamped to +/- 0.005
upper bound of cg_fov clamped to 140
upper bound of cg_zoomFov clamped to 140
no cg_thirdperson view if in the game (and on a dedicated server)

When u connect to a q3 server with OSP mod,,if u dont have the correct setttings ,u will find it seems to take a long time before u connect properly.
U will find it seemingly reloading maps 2 or 3 times and then your in ,or maybe u are kicked out,?. But when u use the correct settings u will find u go strait in ,,well most the time.
I use a Key bind to ping the server ,when i connect,
Usually i go straight in when i ping the server.

bind PAUSE "ping server;echo ^2Ping"

Hope it helps ))

Hi Dredded

I didn't know about those OSP restrictions so that's some useful info which will come in handy - cheers :)

However, this problem occurs on all server types including non-osp ones. Also, it's not a case of the map loading slowly: The game and map loads as normal but instead of allowing me to play it's like someone just pulled the plug on my net connection. The PC doesn't lock up and I can bring the console down and /quit but I can't browse the web or do anything like that until I unhook and redial. At first I thought it was freeserve playing dirty but then I tried Eidosnet and a few other ISP and no change.

I'm going to try a lower asuscom version - i'd be interested to hear from the post originator about driver versions and hardware etc. as well - if we can find some commonality maybe we can nail this.

YAY

Ok, problem solved...

I'm now using v3.6.6 of the Asuscom drivers and it all works just fine. Version v3.7.0 seemed to be the cause of the problem.

2Drunk2Funk - If you're using an Asuscom ISDN card, still have the problem but don't have v3.6.6 (or other non 3.7.0 version) handy then by all means PM me with your email addy and i'll send you the zip.
