The new season is nearly upon us and our respective teams should have made their signings by now... if not, hurry the fuck up! So how do you think your team will do?
Personally I was riding the wave of optimism a few weeks ago, lots of new faces, general excitement and some good performances in pre-season but recently I've come to realise what an utter idiot our manager is. He doesn't understand what 'squad rotation' is and seems to have signed players for cover but is complaining that he hasn't got any. One of the supposed two first choice strikers we have is injured and he's saying he'll have to look at getting a player in on loan as he has no other option. This is despite the fact we signed a young striker from Leicester called Jon Stevenson who has played in the first team on a few occasions and has scored plenty of times too. He's completely oblivious to this however, and has extended the luxury to our goalkeeper. We have signed ex-Chelsea and current U21 'keeper Rhys Evans and coming upto the start of the season King has come out and said Griemink will start against Sheff Wed because they've been equal in pre-season. Once again Andy King has forgotten that Griemink let in two awful goals he should have been able to prevent against Man Utd last week whereas the little we've seen of Evans he's been solid, has commanded the box and is comfortable with crosses. The mind boggles.
It also looks as if he's insisting on playing that useless twat Hewlett again, once again in spite of the fact we've bought in plenty of midfielders who could quite easily put in a much better performance than Hewlett, who evidently has some skill that isn't apparent to any fans at all but is blindingly obvious to King. Not to mention the fact that he still wants to play Duke on the left, despite the fact he's a right footed wingback who is infinitely better and much more comfortable on the right. We've even got an abundance of left-footed players, so there's no reason for Duke to have to play on the left wing this year because there's no lack of left-footed players! The mind boggles.
So, with all that in mind I doubt we'll even challenge for promotion. Another season of mid-table obscurity, with the threat of possible relegation thrown in somewhere during the season, probably before Christmas. A disappointing FA Cup exit to Oxford/Cheltenham/Bristol City or some non-league minnows such as Smallvillageinthemiddleofnowhereyou'veneverheardof FC.
Business as usual, then.
