exp loss?

Ok call me a noob, but when I was scouting about in Yggdra, a purple Firbolg killed me and my friends and I lost exp for some reason. I checked back on the main screen and it said "Beta attacks you with his mace - you are hit for xx damage - you die and lose some exp" Whats up with that?

Unfortunately Zabin, if you are not on full health before you enter PvP combat and after fighting a mob, it is counted as a mob death, hence the loss of xp.
