Exp explained...

I've been playing a few days now and am BR7, but I simply don't understand exp. I realise you get a few exp (30/40) if you're in a squad for each kill, but some caps I get 5K for doing nothing then don't even get 2K when I've killed a fair few people, defended the base and been there since the hack. Can someone explain - preferably easy enough for a RPG newbie like me to understand - about how experience points work? Cheers

The more people you kill in and around the base before and during the hack the higher the wadge of xp will be. For example if you drop into a base totally undefended and you and your squad haven't killed anyone in the area for a while, you may end up with 0 xp. On the other hand spend time taking a heavily defended area and base for 30 mins to a couple of hours then it is likely you will hit the cap.

I only got 4700 one night for taking a hugely defended base and I was there for a few hours notching up kills and getting killed ofc.

So basically find where the action is? Everytime I head for a hotspot it's empty, heh. Cheers for that :]

capping bases = uber xp

defending bases, or resecuring a base = crappy "not worth it" xp

I strolled into a base, hacked a med terminal to heal me poor wounded body, and 2 minutes later the base hack succeeded. I got 2K for that!

I think the time that adds to base cap xp is the 10 mins previous to hack and the 15 during hack. Each slice of time through this 25 mins is assigned a certain amount of xp of which a % is given to you depending on how many people get killed in the SOI.

Apparently it's sod all to do with kills etc.

It's all based on time - slices, and specifically how many of your team are in the SOI in a particular time-slice. This makes people "eligible" for exp.
To actually get exp, there needs to be enemies in the SOI. You dont need to kill them, you dont need to see them, you can stealth hide in the corner shaking and crying uncontrolably at the horror of war, but if there's enough of them there, and enough of you guys - you'll get good exp.

No bad guys there in the time slices you lot were there? = no exp.

Didn't see any bad guys in the time you were there, but in fact there was hundreds coming into the SOI from the south, and just waiting regroup etc, as you left north = very good exp.

That's how it was explained to me - makes a lot of sense in game too. The times I get 5k from a cap is when I'm solo, been hanging round the same base & picking off stragglers as we were being attacked.

Karienal has it right. It's about the populations in the SOI for the 25 mins before the base cap is complete (10 mins before the hack & 15 mins for the hack to take).

There's no point in hanging around if there's no enemy, and you don't need to be in the SOI when the hack completes to get the XP.

If you're in a squad you only need one person in the SOI when the hack completes, you can even be in a different continent and get xp (well it happened for me).
If you're solo then you need to stick around or you won't get anything.

That used to be the way it was, now you don't need anyone in the SOI when the hack goes through to get the exp.

Afaik anyhow.

I've certainly gotten exp when not in SOI (or any squadmembers there) when it's completed.
