Hi folks,

Im just setting up on Prydwen having spent the last year on Excl/Alb as a Paladin. Its time for something fresh though I wont be giving up on Excl I fancy something a bit different.

I have tried Mid before but stopped at about lvl 10 'cos I gave the account to a mate.

At the moment I have slowly eeked my way to lvl 23 over a 4 day period ( /level 20'ed ) with a Skald but having read some of the flames reguarding Skald's Im not sure it was such a good idea :p

I have 2 acounts so the ability to lvl a support class when groups are thin on the ground.. Anyone got any advice on fun combo's or some reassuring comments on Skald's

Thanks folks.

ps. Also looking for a friendly, helpful guild 'cos I been lonley without /gu, /as or /o :p

no matter how much people say skalds are gimped they are one of the most vital classes in a RvR group. i have noticed how hard it has been to get one lately and because of this have made a /leveled one myself - the only reasuring thing i could say would be that you will very rarely be without a grp and well, u know ur class isnt gonna get hit by the infamous mythic nerf bat. really things can only get better for skalds (fingers crossed)

EDIT: not to mention i find it fun to play

and if you put your skald epic on, you're the last to die anyway, not like someone wastes time on a skald...

ARE YOU KIDDING?

Grouping is still a bitch as a skald, as groups only need one, and like buses, skalds appear to come in sets of three. Practically the only reasons I get groups is because Vivacia/Fatality/Slott/Bibi have logged and their groups are desparate, or Zarff has persuaded the group he's with that I'm not really a gimp (AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

Soloing.
That's fairly easy as a skald as long as you don't try to fight a buffed assassin or try to tank a pure tank class (merc/armsman/bm/hero/whatever) or shield tanks. KITING! Kiting is the key to survival against shield tanks or anyone who can beat you senseless real fast. Use that speedsong and that healsong to wear your opponent down (kiting does need a large amount of room to run around in though) - best example of this was when I took 10 minutes to kite a buffed merc until the poor guy just gave up and sat down.

Grouping.
You're not the MA, let's face it, use that /assist macro like you mean it. Use snare to stop any pesky casters/rezzers from getting out of the battle and instant mezz serves lots of purposes (stopping that tank chasing after the healer, stopping that bard spamming amnesia, keeping that sorc still until you're close enough to whack them...)
And remember to turn speed on after every fight, don't believe that red blinking speed on the buffbar, runie speed will fool you!

I hear buffbotted skalds are good at soloing... wouldn't know, I'm never buffed and solo at the same time.

You can't RvR effectively without a skald in each group, unless you are camping somewhere and camping sucks unless you are defending a keep or mounting an assault. I hate not having a skald in group when I go out.

Skalds may get annoyed because they are often treated as taxis but that one ability makes them crucial. You can't get the jump on an enemy if you are moving at runie or healer speed when the enemy moves faster than you.

MACH 5 from ambush point or you haven't ambushed anyone, you're trundling to your death :)

I wish skalds could do a power regen song though and had some extra combat abilities, for although I haven't played one to a very high level and don't know anything about how to play them in RvR, enough experienced players have lamented their lack of punch.

Still a vital class though.

Yes. For speed only. Very gratifying. Turn up to battle and annoy your healer by ruining his mez chance on a target. Run into your instas range and watch the real tanks shred you to bits. Or stand at the back hoping your damage add works whilst cheering everyone who actually has a purpose on.

I wouldn't get too upset Wij. I got a lean mean lifetap with MoM 3 and WP3. Junior is an ewul pet and I can leap tall buildings in a single bound.

And all peeps want me to do these days is debuff spirit for pbae SMs :D

And klav... Bad klav, back in the box! :D

from my experience, when i port to emain theres pretty much always atleast 1 group skaldless and looking for one.

and i have no experience leveling one so i cant comment on the 'playability' of the class in PVE.

Pretty easy to level. Damage add works better in PvE so groups like you. You can kill mobs with a buffbot nearly as well as a proper tank too. It's just when you get to RvR you realise how pitiful your combat abilities and support abilities are :)

Thanks for the info guy's. Im have started a little Kobie Savage on the side, but I think Im gonna stick with my Skald as my Mid Main, after all my Pally was a bloody gimp when I start him shortly after release, why not keep the trend going :D

Is a Healer or a Shammy better as a healer/buffer ?

Cheers guys.

You'll be spotting my gravestones littering your fav places soon.

The ppl that say h2h trolls are still hungup on ws, for a h2h user weaponspeed is more important because the faster you hit the more quads you get over time, but i also believe con is an issue, thats why a dwarf is imo the best race for h2h savage, u get a bit more dex con and qui then a troll and only loose a bit of str.

Shammy. Unless you're buffing a caster when you'll probably enjoy the mana regen a healer can give.

Well it seems that H2H savages caps, or are close to capping swing speed, if nothing else then a Celerety put's them way over the top, troll's have this problem in a lesser degree, by trading some speed for some more weapon skill.

imo it is a good trade of

Skalds can be very nice indeed and not so boring to play with both styles / songs. Nope you won't do as much damage as zerker/savage nor tank as well as warrior. But you'll have sleeves full of tricks, still full styles and chainmail. Play what you like ;)

Shaman buffbot's are everywhere, simple and efficient. Healer (pac with power regen and /w nice CC's) is also reasonable choise (big plus side your bot will actually be somehting you might enjoy playing in RvR levels later unlike aug shaman). Esp for Thane and Skald who use a lot of power on top of endurance.
