50 years after it was first climb by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay if you had the chance to climb it would you honestly want to give it a go?

I'd try and do it in the fastest time possible, go for the record - around/sub 13 hours. But that's $60,000 to Nepalise Gov. i'd rather not give tbfh.

What the hell is the point, when you get to the top you've only got to come down again

Its not like there's a topless bar with free Stella up there or anything, if there was then I possibly I would :)

I assure you.. climbing mountains isn't fun.

I spent two years in a mountain division - the thought of mountains makes me cringe now. *is traumatized*

I think Johnny Bravo has pretty much hit the nail on the head there ! (tho free real ale not stella !!)

On a similar subject what do peeps think about that prat who got stuck at the North Pole ? All the papers made him out to be a "hero explorer" -- as far as I could see he was just a stupid idiot wasting other peoples time and money and putting their lives at risk too. I can understand the race to be the first to somewhere or to explore somewhere new but just trekking to the north pole over land well known and done my many before is not exploring ! All he was doing was trying to push himself and when it failed he expected other people to waste their time, money and risk their lives bailing him out -- and then the papers call him a hero !!!

I saw something about this the other day and he was saying that the company that 'risked their lives' to save hime was quite happy to take the $100000 he paid them to collect him. They knew the dangers before they agreed.
He didnt fail either and what he did hasnt been done by anyone before.

Back to the topic: Yes i would climb Everest.

I would very seriously doubt that was his own money -- if it was then fair enough I guess.

And as for what he did hadnt been done -- the North Pole has been reached plenty of times -- just doing it with a gimmick doesnt make it new and amazing -- and he did fail coz he didnt get back by himself :) He is certainly not a hero (imho of course ;) )

Don't think he did risk anybody elses life tbh, they won't try and rescue if they might die themselves.

Rescue groups frequently risk themselves.
I THINK (stand to be corrected on this one) they were doing things like lightening loadof the aircraft so they could go out in harsh conditions etc -- sounds pretty risky to me.

But they werent a rescue group. They are a company that make a living from flying people to and from places like this. From what ive read this company have picked people up from the pole later than this anyway.
To take his money and agree to pick him up at this time then turn round afterwards and say he risked peoples lives is out of line.

He didnt fail, he didnt set out with the intention of getting back from the pole. Only to get there.

I dont see it is out of line at all. Whether public, private or whatever, it was a dangerous flight that wouldnt have been made if not for him.

As for the success and fail ---- hmm I dont think everyone would have called Scotts expedition a success or if they hadn't got back from the moon etc etc.

And I most certainly do not see him as any sort of hero !

Fair enough reiterating your point, but that's about the fourth time you've said it so far, we get the fucking point!

I've no idea who this bloke is or what he's done either, it seems to have passed me by entirely.
