Events?

The impressive rocky figure grumblingly sits up straight. Holding his head with his massive arm, Krambar eyes the dark corner of his cave, alas unreachable for one of his size, where the kobold brats who have moved in, start to quarrel among themselves...

What are these roleplay posts you see once a week on the camelot-europe site? is it info about events, or are they just pointless reading? Ive been playing daoc quite along time, ive only ever seen two events. Which is kind of dissapointing.

Question is, why don't we see more events?

I think it's like UO, where they regularly update storyline threads which conclude in event quests, allowing hundreds of people to cooperate and get new unique items.

Unfortunately, in GOA/Mythic's case, they write the story but then never actually run the quest.

A little unfair, that one... the Cameran one ran quite well, although with faults (or at least what I'd consider faults :)) and the 'strangers' one is restarting after being on hold whilst the 1.52 patches were sorted out. There have been other small scale GOA events in the past, but like in the real world you needed to run across elements of them and investigate, they were not 'signposted' - much more effort looks to be going into advertising the current quests, but I'm sure there will still be a few things going on that unless you run across them, you'll never even know happened.... I'd like to see more along the scale of the current 'stranger's ' storyline in future, but for now I'm fascinated to see how that one is developed.

The in-game GOA run events don't have unique items as rewards (unlike the UO ones, but then again as a long time UO player I know VERY well you usually found the 'unique special reward' item you slogged through a quest for became the next year's 'free gift for new player' presents.. :)), the same applies for the US Mythic-run servers - they are just ongoing 'stories' that add to the atmosphere of the world, players are free to become involved, ignore them, or whatever.

Sometimes the 'quests' intrude a bit on other folks - the recent episodes in Tepok's Mine caused quite a bit of grief for those unfortunate enough to be trying their 'level based' quests for their classes that required them to do things in Tepoks - but hopefully that sort of clash will be planned for, and avoided, in future campaign wide events.

All told, it's not a perfect system - but I'm sure Kemor wants more quests and events if they can be resourced and organised. Don't expect any that lead to shiny new items though, it hasn't happened in the US and is pretty certainly not going to happen for us either.

For the roleplayers (and often for the other players as well - the Ludlow Bazaar was pretty popular with anyone who went!), there are also the things PARP set up and run, plus things done by the more RP guilds (I'm not in the Templars guild, but I'm sure they do assorted things within their guild that meet the criteria of 'event' for those involved) that are about the development of character-based plots, which are certainly fun for those involved.
