Eve Empyrean Age

I was away on a bit of a trip last week and took the opportunity to read and almost finish Eve Empyrean Age. My first comments are that it is not very well written and in fact very clumsy in places. However, I found myself really enjoying it and getting pulled along. The plot is decent enough its just the rough and ready prose alongside ever so slighly over cooked passages that got tedious at times. That said I like it.

If you play Eve it is worth reading because it adds a lot of depth to the experience of the game. You get all of the background information on a lot of the press releases that we have had in game over the last six months and you also get a good sense of what is happening in the backstory especially in relation to FW. At last I know what was hapening with that carrier crashing into the station thingy....

I will read this, am just majorly dubious that it'll be any good. Would love to find someone who's never played Eve to read it and give an outsider's opinion ;)

Got it in my list Amazon to-buy list so I'll get it soon. My experience is that most of these books related to game merchandise are rarely good books and really well written- not the candidates for the big read or whatever. But they can be entertaining and add immersion so it's all well.

I've enjoyed alot of the EVE Chronicles on the website and in the E-ON issues and I'd imagine the same case would be with this book. :)

Btw fix your link Sharkith ;)

Amazon.co.uk: Eve: The Empyrean Age (Gollancz S.F.): Tony Gonzales: Books

Bleh FH doesn't let you edit after a while.

The in game events covered by the book are as follows:
The Riots in Caldari space - they are explained along with the rise of Tibus Heth
The Nyx crashing into the station
The return of the Sarum empress
The finding of the seventh tribe of Minmatar
The attack on Concord
The rise of the Minmatar raiding party on Amarr to steal back the slaves
More about the Eve gate and new technology

Finally it ends with the entry of capsuleers into Factional warfare as a kind of buffer between the empires.

In all it is not great writing but it is quite dramatic and moves very quickly. The end of the book is slightly forced and it seems that Gonzales runs out of time or space. However I would definitely read it if your into eve's backstory.

It poses interesting questions about capsuleer death and new interpretations of it that would add to any roleplaying that people like to try. Dunno if any of you do this but just thinking about it - a bit like the short storys in EON it adds depth to the game.
