IGNPC: What key elements set EVE apart from other MMOGs?
Reynir Hardarson: There are two main design elements about EVE which set it apart from other MMOGs. The first is the entirely player based economy. No other game has an economy which revolves entirely around manufacture of equipment strictly by players. Everything from weapons, to ammunition, to ships is player constructed. In addition, research can be conducted to make existing equipment more effective. The second is that EVE was designed from the ground up with player vs. player combat in mind. Starting solar systems will be protected by police, but the majority of the systems will be open for combat between players. There's an uneasy feeling you get with another ship is approaching you -- will it fire on you, or is it friendly? We wanted to capture that uneasiness and being constantly viligent while playing EVE.

Aye, the "Elite"-ness of it (no, not "i aer l337 and pwnz0r j00"-elite) was what got me interested.
Can't really understand why David Braben ain't coding a Elite Online himself, would have no problem selling copies with all the old-timers around who fondly remembers their Cobra MKIII's

Bring on those Thargons and Thargoids...
I was also of the BBC B school of Elite... only got to 'Deadly' though... I was young and foolish, what can I say! But manually docking was easy... but I did enjoy owning the space station police!
Played a later version of Elite on the PC... and it had lost it's charm... but agree with post earlier that Cobra MkIII on a BBC B (I had a double floppy drive!) rocked!
