If you get them at a travel exchange place then quite often you can change em back commission free - worth checking for deals. I would only worry about the rate itself if chaging a significant amount to be honest. FYI today's publish GBP/EUR rate from Travelex is 1.4146 - 1.5638.

Edit: another option is to find an ATM at your destination and not worry about the commission etc....

aye Throd, Jup has the right of it. Imo just stick your bank card in the first ATM you see once arrived and get some dosh. Most, if not all of them over here in Euroland accept just about any card (Maestro chain et all).

aye mate, there may be charges. I had a 25 eurocent charge for every transaction I made when I was in New Zealand.

I read in the papers the other day that M&S or Thomas Cook were actually the best places to exchange sterling -> anything else.

Should be commission free and at the best rates, unless the Independent was lying, which it usually is :(

Cash machines: if you live in Euroland.

Getting them at an ATM when you get there is the easiest/cheapest option. Itll work and the charges/rates are no worse (and often better) than the average bank will charge you to change them before you go.

No point getting a "free" exchange service when they fuck you on the exchange rate.

I've just always used Cash Machines abroad, even in Switzerland.

Remember Throd, not to use your CC when paying or checking into your hotel :)

Guy I knew got stung massively in Malaysia when the hotel charged the wrong card (his), then they refunded that amount to the wrong card, and then told him they wouldn't be refunding him! So some lucky punter got free money in his account, and this guy I knew was ripped off.

Another mate of mine got stiffed a few weeks after he left the country for hotel charges he hadn't even accumulated.

I never use my CC in hotels if I can help it. Robbing bastards the lot of them (this country too).

Its only France, should be ok. :)
Im having a great time, I have 2 weeks off for the first time in 13 or 14 years (seriously).
This week my wife is at work so Im spending it doing various gun-related stuff (yipee) then next week me and the wife and my younger son are driving first to Normandy to stay in a chateau and see the D-Day beaches and stuff, then we're going on from there to who knows where :)
Life is good for once :)

Cool, what event is on there? Official website is vague and mentions some "Supercar 500"

Ah, Chez Bernie.

I thought it was only used for testing due to having few if any facilities for actual human beings.

Sounds interesting anyway.

Agreed - just come back from a week down south (Eire), and we got our sterling changed over to euros there. That said I did lift some from the ATM, which gave my balance in pounds, then asked me how much I wanted to lift in Euros.

FUCK SAKE! :D

Saw this advertised today, www.iceplc.com

Not sure if it is better than the post office or marks though, certaintly saves you going outside.
