I connect to the internet through the ethernet here at school. My normal download is 30K/sec, unless I use a download accelerator, then it is about 150K/secand sometimes I get extremely fast connections up to 5 or 6 times as fast. The problem is when I play Quake 3 Online and my computer will automatically download skins or maps or mods, I only download at 4K/sec. What can I do to fix this?

Also, if anyone can point me to any information on LAN's and Ethernet connections, that would be great. I'm looking for any info to optimize my connection and info about LAN's. I can find some info, but nothing that is what I need.:puke:

Not a jot I'm afraid.

That's a server determined speed, because don't forget it has to keep the players on the server updated with positions etc, and so only has a limited amount of bandwidth available to allow players to download pak files etc.

About 5k per sec is the max you'll get.

What the hell you doing playing Q3 from school for anyway?

And they say the education system isn't going downhill....

:p

BTW If you want to optimise your config there's a link in my sig to my Q3 config generator, which allows you to optimise your connection settings for various connections.

When I say school, I mean from my dorm room at Western Illinois University, not from the downstairs computer lab at Clifford Huxtable Middle School. But back in my high school days, we'd sneak into the computer lab when there was basketball games and DM on Doom II for hours.
