I few of you may or may not know, but a few weeks back i had a fit and now they have diagonised me with epilepsy. So i guess what i'm trying to ask is, is there anyone out there who also has this, and how has it affected there life. (i.e going to gigs/boozing and playing 'puter games.) If you don't want to tell people on the boards that fine, but if so could you please PM..

Thanks a bunch.. Mey.

Not affected me personally but a family friend had to give up his driving license due to it - though he since has had it back once they assesed his condition and found medication etc that helped (or thats what I got the impression of how it happened)

The obvious stuff I guess is being mindful of strobe lighting at gigs and clubs etc.

I may sound stupid saying this but epilipsy is not as bad as most think. Dont get me wrong its still bad

Imagine a scale of 1 - 100, now i may over exagerate here to emphasize my later point. 1 is normal, how I am, how you were before. Epilipsy isnt at all serious, - its on the scale of about 20.

My nephew whos was 2 at the time, soon 3 was taken ill over night with encephilitus, or so what they thought. This was SEVERE epileptic seizure activity of the brain. He was constantly having these fitts every 2minutes for weeks. This is finally under control now with a hurendous amount of drugs (its not funny how much pheobarbetone hes on). However, its casued him to be brain dead. On the scale id rate these seizures at leat 80, it was really sad seeing him having them after being a bright clever boy, especially after he was induced to a comah and had drugs to reset his brain :/

My brother had encephilitus while he was about 1 or so. The only thing that is worrying me is the affects of Epilepsy (the fits) and the drugs they give you to stop the fits (loose loose situation aparantly) on Memory..

Cant imagine the pain we've been through. Its even worse as he lived with us all his life. From the times I came home from college when hes waiting to play to the time i brought him chocolate home from work. They are all memories now. He is still alive, but cant do anything for him self - not eat, talk, situp alone, hold his head, or even smile. We all love him even more but our life style has changed so much. He just required 24 hour attention now, more excuses to be with him ;)

Not what you were looking for, but when you go swimming or the like, PLEASE remember to tell the lifeguards. Just whisper it to them, they'll know why you tell them.

I did have a mate who used to suffer from some fits, he found that he could club, but never got too mashed to play it safe. Although he'd get trashed at parties.

He was a pretty heavy MoHAA player too.

My ex. had epilepsy although with her, she fell into some state due to flashing lights and started talking about demons and the devil. Needless to say it scared me shitless.

i used to work with a girl who had some form of epilepsy and these were she avoided using chemicals/heavy machinery, driving also riding a bike (dont want to fall off on the road tbh) also just take care when in the bath if you live with someone just leave the door open, if you live on your own tbh take showers.

Just think before you approach any situation "would this harm me if i lost contorl"? dont live your life in fear though just modify it a little i'm sure there are epilepsy support groups (and i dont mean you have to sit in a circle, wear a cardigan and talk to someone called Pauline who keeps hankies up her sleeves) and they wouldnt mind at all if you called them for a chat and some adivse, thats what theyre there for.

Information is your greatest weapon against this bud, learn as much as you can about it from people who know and you'll be set up to carry on and enjoy your life.

Crikey, just when you think things are going bad for yourself you read something like that and you realise how much worse things could actually be.

I may be wrong but can you not get a bracelet as well that will advise people of the condition - I know there is one for something but had a bottle of wine, just remembered this thread and thought best just pop on - someone else check for sure but I think it is epilepsy related / can be used for a variety of problems and basically can forewarn anyone of your condition should you be in a situation where you have a fit and they are not certain of what course of action to take to help etc.

ah here ya go, checked it - there are a few links at the bottom of the page as well with general help and advice for you (guessing you probably have checked them already though tbh)

Lost a really good freind to epilepsy a few years back he did make his own condition worse by popping e's/barbituates and always clubbing etc and his fits were always very severe quite scary the first few times you see them, on the other end of the scale my girlfriend sufferes with epilepsy and her fits are mainly stress related she was treated with drugs which had side effects which were actually worse than the fits themself :< eventually she stoped taking them and worked on avoiding triggers and has been free of fits for 2 years now :D.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is everyones epilepsy is different triggers and seriousness etc do seek advice from support groups as someone else said it really helps talking to people that understand and have been through the same thing.

I am sure I just heard an Ad on the radio about Epilepsy, there were talking about making a journal, marking down everything you do then taking it somewhere to allow you to find out what is the best possible treatment.

When I was diagnosed with a chronic disease, I was pretty confused, didn't know where to get information, didn't feel like I could talk to people etc. I found support forums to be really useful - just where people talk about their condition, how it effects their lives, any medication they've tried (be it normal or complimentary) etc.

From a brief search on google, I'm guessing this is the place for Epilepsy in the UK. Just like FH its good to find somewhere where you can talk about things that effect you with people that are in exactly the same situation as you :)
