English speaking servers

I like many people on Prydwen are unable to speak another language other than my first language english and a little of my native language welsh which is rarely used and you spit alot trying to pronounce the words .

I had a pm the other night from two people and I couldn't understand what the hell they were saying since it wasn't english, to both I replied I don't understand what you are saying could you speak in english please, the first one comes oops sorry and he/she asked me a question and I answered it to the best of my ability.

Now the second response was totally different a few lines came back yet again in a language I didn't understand, so I replied this is an english speaking server I suggest you use english since I can't understand you, at which point a quick reply came back, I had a feeling it was insulting even though I had no idea what it meant, I pmed a friend of mine and asked what does this mean and it turned out to be danish and basically it said learn to speak another language you ignorant english fuck.

Now when I was in school a second language wasn't a priority and not pushed forward as in the schooling setup these days, I am not ignorant to the fact I can't speak another language its just the way it is I am afraid, but ignorance does go both ways if a server says its an english speaking server then you would expect it to be just that.

I don't have a screen shot and can't remember the guys name even if I did I wouldn't be able to spell it all I ask for is if you people pm others for whatever reason and can't understand you then have some maturity and respect, even tolerate the fact that not everyone is gifted with the knowledge of more than one language.

Spoken like a true brit tomb, yes i agree this server is english and people should respect that. But not everyone has been bought up to be polite, rather like dragged up from the gutter..

Prydwen might be considered a swedish server but at least you make the effort to speak english to the minority

its just someone being rude, also danish is probably one of the most USELESS secondary language's ever, spoken by like 6 million around the world....

still, its always nice to be able to read extrabladet

oh and you make it sound as if learning a second language is being pushed in english schools NOW, well its not, i know 3 others (out of about 300) that speak a second language, me being danish, one being german and the last being south african.

not really a big deal for daoc though as english should be the main language (as its the most common), unless of course everyone in the group/guild speak the same language, but in that case no one will complain

i agree 100% on this, and although i can speak dutch french and abit of german aswell, i still think that you should adress ppl in the language of the server, or when they ask to be adressed in that language, the ones ignorant are the ones that dont adapt, and why the hell do you have to change because someone else wants smt from you (info, etc etc etc).
its not like if you go on a holiday and you ask someone smt in your own language that is not known worldwide and expect foreigners to understand and reply to you in that language, its pretty much same as daoc,

Danish is the native tongue of Danes living in Denmark.. some speak Københavnsk but they can't help it.. it's just a more gutteral dialect of the Danish language

I suggest you find out what guild this guy was in and have his GM give him a reprimande.. if it was someone in my guild I'd have him kicked imediately.. offending people with no reason just because the offender isn't old enough to have learned the language used on the server he plays on, is something I wouldn't tolerate. If they aren't old enough to read and speak the language used, they aren't old enough to play!

And hey Ormo, you lived in Denmark once you old git, Danish isn't useless.. what would you have done if you didn't speak Danish while living here?

Which, sadly, is a very common feature with many children in Denmark these days Children in school misbehaving so badly that their teachers have to go to rehab, thus creating a shortage of good teachers.. sad sad sad.

Allmost everyone are more than ok to speak english with ppl that are not from your own country. I for one prefer to speak english over swedish in doac.

I have no problem to type in english (well not perfect english but...) or speak for that matter.
What do bothers me tho is if someone I dont talk to atm would complain at me using my Swedish in main chat or something.
For a IRL example:
You wouldnt tell an arabian guy on the market in town to talk English (asumed hes in England and you overhear what hes saying to another dude=P)
....dunno why i rambling about this tho, not like anyone has complained at me =P

I reallly think we should convert prydwen to a swedish server tho =)

I wrote this because Prydwen has always been one if not the warmest most friendly servers around, these days I feel there is an icey edge creaping in and the language barrier is one of the problems, with more people using their own native tongues in open chat or broadcast, which I don't mind but don't expect to get an answer, or get people to do something if they can't understand what you say and then get arsely about it.

But i think normal Danes understand that, and it was just as case of a young kid with no patients or somthign like that.

Sane ppl don't expect other ppl to answer in a language they don't understand and have no problem at all speaking his language if he infact know it himself that is. I understand why you posted it but I still think it's a pretty useless and meaningless post since we all know all countries have their insane/lame ppl and there's nothing we can do about it rly ^^

But maybe that's what makes this post perfect for freddyshouse xD
