yep, whine inc..

still not convinced.. rather lucky goal by owen, followed by a lapse of concentration from luke young.. 1-1..

then for 2nd goal.. was a clear breakaway and even that was almost fooked up, owen's pass was terrible tbh, lampard did well to even hit it never score from it..

and then.. the subs came on.. 2-1 lead.. on come the 2nd string and team lose shape and purpose... is sven gonna do that in germany? better not, coz there's better teams than poland qualified..

If you can't beat Poland, why would you want to go to the world cup?

Well, we didn't go, so I shouldn't be saying anything (but we did beat Poland 5-1, back then I felt bad for people in Poland, now I guess the tables are turned ) :p

are you actually retarded? two great goals, and young was one of the best players on the pitch.

Can't argue with winning the group but I can't help but feel that Erikson's weakness is a lack of tactical sense. In games where players in better teams are more evenly matched his weaknesses as a coach look pretty glaring. Poland are decent enough side generally well organised etc. but they're hardly packed with star players. When he starts making tactical changes that influence games to help us to overcome stronger opposition I'll be more convinced by him as a coach. May seem petty, but IMO at least, at that sort of level better tactics can win or lose the tournament. Just look at Greece for example...

On the plus good to see the players out there playing with confidence and going forward alot more. Was a good team performance overall with some good performances for individual players too. At last they showed a little spirit!

what match where u watching? we were playing poland. owen is one of my fave players now he correctly signed for newcastle utd, but 1st goal.. LUCKY as hell.. 2nd goal.. overhit pass that overcomplicated matters and coulda soo easily went wrong.

if u think england gonna get away with crap like that in world cup, got another thing coming.

when u think.. we prolly have best defenders in world at club level..
easily the best midfielders at club level
and can equal any teams strikers at club level..

u gotta wonder why the hell they aint pissing all over teams like northern ireland and austria etc.. what it sven saying to them? hello guys, lets win ok? good luck. seems to be it.

im not trying to be disrespectful to other teams, but SURELY, we should be HAMMERING teams in group stages instead of getting crappy 1-0 wins thru a penalty?

i'll say this.. if Sven is still in charge for Germany 2006, england wont progress any further than 1/4 finals. because he has no grasp of how english football works and ANY grasp of how to go for the throats of other teams.

Sam Allardyce or Stuart Pearce need to be there for finals, guys with guts and passion. 1-0 to Togo at half time? sven or those guys to give kick up arse?

Please say you are joking :p

The most passionate manager we've had in 30 years was Kevin Keegan...and aside from Graham Taylor he was the worst.

Stuart Pearce has done nothing yet that says to me he's anything other than a tubthumper - and as Keegan showed you need more than that to succeed at the very highest levels.

As for Sam Allardyce...well all I can say is that having watched Bolton live a number of times if he becomes England manager we will go back to the mediocrity of the 70s. His primary tactic is to win as many set pieces as you can and go from there. Sure he employs psychologists, dieticians and the like but when his team takes to the pitch they still play very basic football. He says he has to do that because Bolton don't have much money - but he's had some top quality players over the years and still plays the same way...

Can you tell I don't like Bolton yet? :D

Sven isn't perfect, but be careful what you wish for ;)

Englands main problem for the last 10 years has been that against any competitive team in a competitive match, when england go 1-0 up, they're told to start playing defensive. Just watch some old matches and see them try to time waste and back pass much much more then usual england would. We then loose the ball and of course because it has been back passed so much, the defence is lacking and goals come for the other team. We then crumble. This isn't down to the players, it's down to cowardly management which doesn't understand that offense is very often the best form of defence...../wave sven.

It's far beyond the comical stage now where you can be guaranteed to watch pretty much any england match against an equal opponent and watch them throw away games through being too passive.

Get rid of sven and get someone with a pair to replace him :p

damned if u do and damned if u dont. ppl whine when england loose and ppl whine when england wins.

oh and heres another conspiracy theory for all u english fanatics, what if Sven is doing it on purpose? *gasp*

what if hes doing it just to spite you?? i know i would have.

Tell me one manager who always picks players that every fan agrees with...only 1 I can think of is Mourinho. Bottom line is the results. The last 2 tournaments we've got to the quarter finals. In the World Cup we went out to the eventual winners so no disgrace there, and in the Euro Championships we lost our best player early on and went out to the hosts on penalties. Again no disgrace. The difference with England under Erikson is that atleast we have a team now that goes into tournaments with an expectation of doing well. People say that it's because we have better players now which simply isn't true. We've had squads in the past with world class players like Bryan Robson and Kevin Keegan who haven't done aswell. I don't agree with some of Erikson's selections (I've watched Crouch play live a dozen times at Villa Park and if he is international class then I'm a pork pie :p ) , and sometimes his tactics are odd...but we have qualified again, as group winners and I just reckon everyone should be getting behind them now for Germany instead of being so bloody negative. :p
