I created an Enchanter recently, currently specced 12 mana/4 enchantment. I really wanted to try out pbaoe, and I must say its the most crazy thing I have ever done in daoc. I level insanely quickly and its great fun, although I die lots :/
Having an Enchanter as my main, I feel inclined to add my two coppers.
For convinience purposes (and if you want to solo a lot) get mana high enough to get "Effervesence" -> 15 which will get also get you a half decent AE (if you want to get some greens down quickly or check if Infiltrators/Shadow Blades are around.. veery useful).
Putting more points into it is nonsense, though... yer not an Eldritch. They get all the cool AoE spells.
Your pet is your weapon, so max. out your enchantments.
Personally I think light specced Enchanters are nothing but gimped Eldritches. Level based DD spells are the way to go
Oh, and don't pull mobs with your DD spells... use stun or even better Soporific Scintiliation, which will also debuff the mob's attack speed.
If you want a pbaoer, I would suggest maxing mana and sticking the rest in Enchants.
And I really wouldn't recommend any chanter speccing enchantments very high, certaintly not above other lines. Your pet is basically there to keep aggro off of you, not to do great damage.
Mana spec = pbaoe = killing lots of blues/greens/yellows (although this is dangerous) At lvl12 I was killing the entire Blackthorn/Luman spawn S of Mag Mell in 1 pull, the exp was crazy)
Light spec = nukes = soloing oranges/reds and maybe low purps if you are feeling reckless.
1. You get effervescence at 14.
2. You waste so much more mana on basline nukes than the light spec line
3. groups don't always want to have a pet, and rebuffing every 10 minutes in RvR isn't very useful. Also, people ignore your pet there and take you out.
4. The enchanters pbaoe is .5 seconds quicker than an eldritches with exactly the same damage on each one, and getting them on exactly the same lvls apart from the lvl 2 one the eldritches get. So I wouldn't agree on that part either
I have a light enchantress, and I'm planning to go:
45 light
26 enchantment
14 mana
If I was mana I'd go:
48 mana
20 enchantments
14 light (same as tRoG)
That's just what I feel as my main's an enchantress
