On offer again but this time for the week Hope people will read this at least although I doubt people look at this section frequently...am looking forward to it though
E;TW has improved a shit load since its release, and there are now quite a few seriously large/detailed mods out there, so its worth a look if your interested
personally, maybe its just the setting, but i prefer MTW2 still
Had nothing but issues with this game since the release.
First, the CTD when I attacked the Iroquois nation's last city - meaning I couldn't finish them off (still yet to be fixed).
Then the CTD at the end of the AI turns throughout the campaign - so I'd have to go back and do things differently to try and get the AI to avoid whatever action they had done to cause the crash. I was in Groundhog Day.
Finally, corrupt save games. I can load a single save game from my campaign, but then when I try to make subsequent saves these become corrupted. I'm at turn 160 in the grand campaign - 40 turns from 'the end', if I want to complete it I have do the whole thing in a single sitting (because I can't save and come back to it).
According to the wonderful people at Sega Support, the corrupt saves are do to incompatibility issues between version save games (games saved under 1.2 wont save under 1.4 etc). So the only real solution is to start a brand new grand campaign. Which I am loathed to do. Especially as its taken me 8 months to do 160 turns simply because of the bugs they failed to pick up on (and there's no guarantee that I wont get the same things in a new campaign!).
And perhaps the most annoying part of it all, when it does work - it's fucking enjoyable!
So, I start a new campaign, get another 160 turns thru, they release a new patch I'm back to square one? That's hardly acceptable.
Given the scope of the game, and the time you need to dedicate to get over half way through a Grand Campaign they should try their hardest to make sure prior saves work - especially when they're fixing problems that should have been addressed prior to the games release.
I'll give it another go when I have more time - apparently the latest patch has 'improved' the AI.
Its odd, I managed two compete games after it first came out. The last time I played it though, every time I built an invading force and tried to land them by ship on to a country I was at war with it would just send them back to my capital, I gave up after that.
The bugs are a real shame because its a blinding game otherwise.
