Eldritch spec

OK can I ask the community for some constructive advise.
I would particulary like to hear from other eldritch's that have dual speced earlier than Lvl 40.
Ive heard everyone say fully spec until you get the half lvl points (Lvl 40 ?). But I have not really heard the reason behind this!
Im Lvl 21 now with full void spec, but was considering putting next couple of lvl points into light or mana just to get some different spells.

My Light eld is keeping light skill 2lvs bellow char lvl atm, rest in mana. Later i'll have 3 lvls below char lvl.

Reasons why to keep skill up to char lvl are mainly two:
Get more powerfull spell versions more quickly.
Less dmg variance and maybe also ressists, though i'm not sure about this.

But personaly i think it's not neccessary to keep skill at your char lvl by speccing as long as you are able to get items with bonuses that will raise it to or even above your lvl.

as long as u have fun playing your character i dont see any prob how u spec.

I have gone full light to make lvling a bit easier. i am thinking of putting some points into mana for a change, but i will prolly wait till the 1/2 lvls

Depends if you want to RvR a bit as well. If you spec light 'till you get the first Nearsight, you can piss off a load of people in the BGs. If you're not planning on showing your face outside of the realm till you're in your high 40's I'd dual spec later.

OK my mage, arianwyn, is a light/mana split eldy currently 20/20 at level 29

this means my nuke is about 10 levels behind me so I find it very hard to solo :-/

if I could do it again I would have waited til 40 before speccing mana because I am finding it pretty tough going now.

Time for me to swoop in and give you my advice=)
Now, at 50, i´m specced at 46 void, 26 light and 10 mana.
the 46 void gives you the final bolt, Bolt of Uncreation, ask the yellow con mage in Odins this afternoon what dmg it does=)
26 light gives you some fancy debuffs, including nearsight and a whooping 21sec mezz, small ae.
now, the 10 mana, it gives you a pbaoe spell, which is pants=/ It´s only used to interrupt casters, no use to do it in lordroom defending.
As for speccing: It is very important for a mage to do as much dmg as possible in the shortest time possible. Face it, our armor is as strong as toiletpaper, so as soon as they step on to your toes, you can start typing /release. If you spec the points into another line, you´ll do less dmg with the spells you really use and you´ll do crap dmg with the new spells you´ll gain in the new line.
At 40, you get extra points, you can keep speccing your main line, but you also get those spare points. then is the time to start putting it in other lines aswell.

OK

Thanks for all of the advise
Ive also been reading some of the websites mypetmage etc

what I have found is the following:

if your spec in the spell line is equall or above to your lvl then the damage of the spell is 125% therefore I deduce that I really must keep void at the same lvl.
However I currently own an item that gives me 2 lvl's in void! therefore I am above my lvl in void spec & therefore I would guess I am not getting any benifit has the 125% is probably capped.
I figure that I can then effectivly drop 2 lvl's in void!

After looking through the Mana & Light Lines
I guess my best compliment is to go for light!

To get the first nearsight spell (I think this is the only real good reason to try & dual spec at this stage) I need to put 10pts into light. Please can anyone correct me if nearsight is not 10pts.
now i have worked out that to get 10pts into light over a 2 lvl period the earliest I can do this is Lvl 27 & 28. achieving 7pts at lvl 27 & 10pts at lvl 28.
This give me another 5 lvl to really make my decision.

Any other thoughts on this from anyone?
