Eldricht staffs???????

if i have void specced at lvl 11 and i am using a staff that has void lower at lvl 7 what effect does this have?

if i want a staff to be equal or higher than my void spec then they are red/purple to me so im a odds to what i require.

ive specced only in void so far.

so do i go for a staff with a lower void level than i have it specced or use a weapon to high, and pricey!! :), for my level?

thanks for any help you have

i tried the /advice command but got no reply!! someone must know how this works !!! :)

the value on staves change how much mana your spells use
if you dont use a staff, your spells will use around 150% of the normal casting cost(aparently)
if you do use a staff, it will obviously, cost less to cost your spells of the spec line that the staff has points in
in the lower lvls i found it better to get an expensive one, because by the time they turn yellow, you will most likely have a new one from a drop, quest, or otherwise

lets say you have level 10 in light magic, level 9 in mana and 5 in void (example)

and you have no staff

all spells will cost you 120% (ie if it cost 10pwr to cast, it now will cost 12)

if you have a staff which is 9 to all levels

then to cast a level 10 light spell, it will cost you 100% of pwr cost
to cast a level 9 mana spell, it will cost you 80% (or was it 90% ?) of pwr cost
and since the void is less than 9, it will also cost 80% (or 90%, can't remember)

so basically...yeah, better to have a staff, since no matter the level, you still will cast for 100% pwr cost, without, it will always be 120%

Quoted from a Sorceror guide I found. The best (although still confusing) guide to focus staffs i ever found

Q: What good is a focus staff? Should I use one?

A: Without a focus staff, you are penalized, so yes you should always wield one. The penalty is that each spell you cast costs you 120% of the normal power consumption. Stats on a focus staff look something like this:

mind 25 levels
matter 25 levels
body 25 levels

Say you're wielding a focus staff like the one I've described above. You will now cast all spells at 100% power cost, with the following exception: any spec line spells you cast (not the base spells, but spells that require specialization) will be cast at 90% power, if the spec required for that spell is equal or lower than the number listed on your staff. So for instance, with the above staff, you'll cast all non-spec spells at 100% power cost. A spell like Cloud of Senility, which requires 24 mind spec, will cast at 90% power. A spell like Wrest Will, which requires 32 mind spec, will cast at 100% power.
