So. When I did my knee in in December last year I asked my accountant to wind up my company. I wanted to make sure I'd done everything by the book and that I'd paid all tax owing - and specifically asked him whether I'd get hit by a nasty tax bill later on down the line.

I said I'd rather pay it earlier and know it's paid than find out later that I've got a huge bill and hardly any funds.

It takes a long time to wind up a company so I ring the accountant today to double-check stuff and he throws me a mail with "oh, you oh the taxman nearly 8 grand"...

Considering I specifically asked the question "have I paid all my tax? Have I nothing left to pay? Are you sure I won't have to pay any more?" and got a nice firm "yes" from him I'm pretty fucking livid. (Not to mention skint).

Now - I did this on the phone, and therefore have no written record. What I want to know is:

Considering mobile phone companies keep records of all our conversations - can you ask them for the recording of conversations to a specific number?

If I can get that on tape I'm going to sue the fucker for every penny. I've not worked for 9 months now and what little savings I have left have just taken a fucking huge whack. :(

Sorry, no.

Man. That sucks balls. The government and police get access to everybody's records at a whim but when it comes to joe public wanting access to his own personal information then the answer's fuck off?

Yep. Drinking heavily for me tonight. Followed by (hopefully) quick route back into gainful employment before my leg/ankles are ready for it tbfh :(

They only keep records (unless they have a trace on the line) of calls dialled and received, as well as the cell you were in when the call was made. At least, thats how it works with fixed line phones (obviously not the cell bit, you pedants) which is what I deal with.

I would ask him why he didn't tell you this sooner. Depending upon his response, I would use that answer as negotiation for reducing his fee.

When you said "Wind up my company" I thought this was all regarding a joke...
