Which makes me glad, because if they actually were that scary I might have to develop arachnophobia, which on top of my wasp phobia, flying phobia and parasite phobia would be more than my fair share.

According to most spider experts, these claims are all false. Camel spiders (so named because, like camels, they can be found in sandy desert regions) grow to be moderately large (about a 5" leg span), but nowhere near as large as dinner plates; they can move very quickly in comparison to other arthropods (a top speed of maybe 10 MPH), but nothing close 25 MPH; they make no noise; and they capture prey without the use of either venom or anesthetic. snopes may have debunked some of the 'facts' of the camel spider, but make no mistake; it's one nasty motherfucker. it's prolly the fastest spider around and when you stir it from it's cozy place somewhere in the shades it's gonna come for you and come for you fast, it's incredibly aggressive.

i saw a picture slide of a guy in egypt who got bitten (and actually injected with venom) who didnt have medical help where he was.. it was pretty nasty, the majority of his hand around the thumb pretty much decayed.
