I recently built a machine for a friend of mine (at least he was )
using an ECS K7S6A mobo (cos he's cheap), an AMD XP2000 and a Gainward MX440.
Since he wanted to run some older games, I decided to dual boot the machine with Win98 and XP Pro. Everything runs swimmingly, MOHAA runs with no probs as does UT2003 and Unreal 2.
Time comes when he wants to put some older games on, so he puts them on the XP partition (duh!!). To my suprise, Sierra's Red Barron 2 runs without any trouble, apart from when you plug the joystick in. This is a Logiteck Wingman Extreme USB job. With this installed, there is no sound on the game? If you uninstall, then re-install RB2, it runs with the jostick and sound, but after re-booting, theres no sound in the game again!!
Ive uninstalled RB2 from the XP partition and installed in the Win98, but now Win 98 isnt recognising the joystick .
I suspectet this may be a problem with the USB and on-board SiS sound, so I wacked in a pci64 SoundBlaster, disabled the on-board sound and gave it a whirl, but the same thing happens in XP and Win98.
Ive been to the ECS webbeh, but cant find the USB drivers, and he's lost his disk .
Ive tried some new SiS drivers for the AC97 on-board sound, but they are the same version as was on the installation disk.
Ive DL'd the Logitech Wingman software and installed that, no help.
And to cap it all, the Sierra website appears to be borked.
Has anyone got any ideas?
