It all depends on the positioning and how they are facing, but no info on that was included, so i wouldn't call this a riddle, just an flawed question. Logically, there would be 8 ducks. But how Laddey manage to conjure up 12 of them could be a riddle in itself.
Not really no, if you have 8 ducks like this:

There would be 4 ducks infront of 4 ducks and not only 2.
And if you position them like this:

X X
X X
X X
There would also be 4 ducks beside 4 ducks and not only 2.
The only way the statements amphrax said are true is to have 4 ducks positioned like a square.
