soap operas make me sick full stop. The whole point of them seems to be to show people the worst possible side of humanity and people watch it as entertainment...call me odd but I prefer my entertainment to be, well, entertaining not depressing but that's just how I roll.


It is true about people having a very strange sense of what is appropriate and what is not, i.e. people get all funny over dead baby jokes but laugh at dead adult jokes..I wonder what it is about the few intervening years that makes it ok to laugh when one croaks?

Eastenders is probably the worst show on TV, rarely to I actually panic mash the remote while surfing to get off a channel before it's awfullness hits me.
Who the fook are all these people who love it?
It's like a mass emo depress-in, most of the characters are tedious ugly cockney wankers and I have yet to accidently catch it for more than 10 seconds without seeing some crunched up face shouting at another.
Eastenders is like the angry chav version of Corrie and actually manages to make the Corrie characters look posh.

My answer to stuff like Eastenders is simply "don't watch it" (not that I ever did), but at the same time I do understand why people are upset.

Hate Eastenders, it never changes and is always horrible negative shit with the occasional silver lining. At least Coronation Street is usually pretty light hearted stuff, yes it does have some shocking storylines but they always seem to be handled less brutally and with more compassion. For that reason I can understand why people watch it, as for Eastenders I have no fucking idea how it can be classed as entertainment and screened early in primetime. It is a black drama with thin plots and mostly poor acting.

Don't necessarily agree with that. Sure, you have different emotional responses depending on your life and events, but getting uppity and judging about one thing and making fun of another similar thing is hypocritical.
