Im sure most of you know about this already but for those with head in the sand...
From planettribes:
The following is still in rumor-mode, so until confirmed, take everything posted with a grain of salt. That said, former Dynamix staffer (and T1 lead designer) Scott "CornBoy!" Youngblood posted some sad news that has been all but validated from various sources.
I spent over 9 years at Dynamix... and day before yesterday I heard a rumor that quite frankly shocked me. Well it turns out that this rumor is a strong one and coming quickly to turn out to be true.
Dynamix is going to be shut down and every one laid off.
I'm not sure who is to blame, but it sure as hell isn't the hard working employees that are going to be out on the street soon.
This sucks BIG TIME.
Here is a little story about it on fuckedcompany.com
http://forum.fuckedcompany.com/phpc...=0&crapfilter=1
Another former staffer, Psyclone, came forward and said the following:
I worked at Dynamix for 6 years and was a victim(benficiary?) of the February '99 layoffs. Do any of you non believers remember what happened then? The cancellation of B5, a very anticipated game, The closing of an entire studio, the birthplace of Sierra, The scathing of 50% of Dynamix employees, me included. You act like this is such an impossibility. Look at Ion Storm, sure it pumped out crap but it got shut down. Take into account the current state of the computer industry and the economy, add to that the fact that the gaming industry is and has always been a volatile arm of the computer industry. Do the math folks. At this point I wouldn't call T2 enough of a success to keep the doors open, look at what it's costing to support/patch it, and the little bit of money from T1 was gone a long time ago.
I know Cornboy and can see his motivation for posting this thread. How can him posting this hurt any of his friends any more than they already are with their upcoming demise? You all cut him down for posting relevant information, especially to the readers of this forum. I would have posted the same thread as he did but he carries more credibility in the community than I do and he's getting flamed, I would get ripped apart.
I still have friends at Dynamix and some more recent casualties of the Sierra/Havas swingin axe that I keep in contact with and they all support this 'rumor'. I share the sadness that Cornboy does. I had some great times at Dynamix. It's truly sad to see this come to an end.
When contacted by TW, Dave Georgeson didn't have a comment. We're still trying to get in touch with Sierra's Alex Rodberg.
To add to the concern that the rumor is true, T2's ingame IRC #tribes2 topic was (and is as of this post) "Vivendi-Universal just closed Dynamix as of 12pm PDT Today." Vivendi is Sierra (and Dynamix's) parent company. Even if Sierra and Dynamix want Dynamix to stay alive, chances are Vivendi has the final call. It doesn't look good.
Assuming Dynamix does shut down, questions of community support (conventions, tournaments, patches and like) are starting to pop up. What would happen to the Tribes/StarSiege/EarthSiege/Cyberstorm franchises? And where will the current Dynamix employees end up?
Again, this is still in a rumor state, so don't jump onto the "sky and tribes is falling!" bandwagon just yet. As soon as we get official word on the matter we'll post it on the page.
V12 Engine Launched!

A little bit of good news today! Tim Gift has announced that version 1.0.0 of the V12 Engine SDK is now available for purchase and download! You can see the announcement here.
[update - 13:43 PST] Sierra's Alex Rodberg hopped into T1 IRC, doesn't know what's happening and is trying to gather information. He had encouraging words. "As long as I'm an employee of this company I will support and fight for this game."
[update - 15:45 PST] Another former Dynamix employee, Dave "Diamondback" Meddish, has posted a new thread titled "The rumors are apparently true: Dynamix is dead."
Here's what I know: I just spoke to one of the five people left in the building at Dynamix. Everyone was told to leave at noon and not come back until Monday morning, at which time they'll announce the fate of Dynamix (but we can guess what's going to happen).
This is incredibly sad. There's a lot of talent there and a lot of friends there who are now getting the axe.
One of the pioneers of the game industry are gone thanks to the mismanagement of Sierra. One of the potentially great games of all time is gone thanks to the gross incompetence of the idiot they put in charge.
...
Incredibly brutal news. Sierra is supposedly laying off 300+ employees this Monday, so although Dynamix's fate is still unknown, the situation look gloomy. Our best wishes and prayers go out to the Dynamix guys as they wonder what the future holds in store for them.
[update - 18:12 PST] An anonymous Dynamix staffer sent a message to TW describing what's happening at their end.
1) At noon today (Thursday) everyone at Dynamix was asked to leave the building. (98 employees) The doors are locked and no one is allowed entrance again to gather belongings until Wednesday of next week while they catalog equipment.
2) On Monday, there's an off-site meeting with Sierra upper management to determine whether any of us have any employment opportunities with Sierra in the near future. Most of us will be out of work at that time.
3) The patch and demo are still likely to be completed, but that will probably be it. It's not clear when they will be completed and who will do the work.
4) Sierra probably has plans for the Tribes franchise, but it's doubtful that anyone who worked at Dynamix will be involved with it.
5) There's been no information about why the layoffs are occurring. Total info vacuum
We've heard from a few sources that the Dynamix guys are under an NDA prohibitting them from commenting (hence the anonyminity). Time to give our thanks and GG's?
