ok, another question :p

i currently have a PC-DVD Encore 6x creative labs dvd rom with a dxr3 decoder card. if i go for another dvdrom that doesn't come with the card, can/should i leave the decoder card in and hook it up to the new drive? or does it not matter nowadays? :)

I had exactly the same package, works fine with my nu DVD rom. But I decided to opt for a software decoder as I needed the extra PCi slot. Looks just fine, and the sound is better.

My advice would be to try both and see what works best.

I have the same drive and I cant really see the benefits of upgrading the drive for DVD playing purposes...

yep, if you're having any problems with playback try fiddling with DMA ;)

Just get an ATi card and enjoy the best quality DVD playback on the PC market ;)

Even though I am now an Nvidiot as Bodhi would say. I must agree with him that ATi do a very impressive job on DVD playback. One of the Radeons best selling points :)

Yes they did but since Xavier has tested and used the GF4 I'll go with what he says ;)

heheh..... :)

You do that, I will see for myself exactly how much better the GF4 is at playing DVDs. If at all.................................

as the GF3 I currently have is pretty shite in comparison to my old radeon on DVD playback

There is nothing wrong with the DXR3 apart from the fact that it was made by creative.

U need to do 2 things:
  1. Download the lastest drivers for the Hollywood plus from Sigma Designs
  2. Download/Buy Remote Selector
  3. Install and enjoy
    [/list=1]

This will fix 90% of bugs + the fact that creative have stopped supporting the DXR3 so no more drivers!!

Its the DXR3 that has the region lock on it (as well as the drive sometimes (my 6x was region free ) ) and Remote selector fixes it + it disables remote selector.
