Quick question...

Do I need the remote or can I use the controller?

This ain't Xbox country you're in. Sony don't stich everyone up completely. The controller works just fine.

I play dvds on mine with controller, they were fine to start with, but have been 'sticking' and 'jumping' every few seconds, its getting worse now, dvds arent scratched cuz they work fine in a proper player.

Must need the lense cleaning i guess.... but games are fine?!

Wierd... :(

Its not the money, I have never watched a dvd and am curious to see what it's like. Some of my family/friends have movies that I wouldn't mind seeing. Another thing is we have way too many remotes already, tv, video, sky, hifi, time for an "all in one" methinks :)

urggh

all in one's are never a pretty solution...
in my bedroom alone i have 5 remotes :/

xbox, ps2, tv, video, hifi. it IS annoying i'll grant u, but far more flexible than an all in one will ever be

I don't think anyone would buy an X-Box to watch DVDs.

well

that's debatable actually; comet were selling them for £129 the other day... wangle a free dvd remote in the bargain... makes a pretty good fucking dvd player if you ask me... especially with the ability to play some games when you fancy it

It would surprise you.

I've had several people in the shop this week alone (yes, it's only Wednesday) looking to buy a console for it's DVD playback. The games to them are the "bonus feature".

i bought my xbox partly for DVD player too

great remote aswell, easier than anything i've seen for a standalone dvd player.

Apparently you need the remote on the older versions of the PS2,

They contain a CD that puts Drivers on your memory card to help you run the DVDs Better.

I think the new PS2 are ok,
But the remote is a handy thing to have, alot easier to use than the controller

LOL

there's no apparently about it. NO ps2, old or new, needs the remote controller to play dvd's.

i ve never watched a dvd on a ps2, but have heard of ppl who bought a ps2 for dvd playback, but ended up getting a standalone player aswell , becuase you have to put the vol up on the tv, just to drown out the noise from the ps2 fan.

The DVD volume on the ps2 is indeed fuckin abysmal but i luv it anyway.

hmm

i find this is true of a lot of things tho - my video recorders do it, my consoles do it... everything... so i would hardly begin to criticise the PS2 for it too.

what gets on my tits though - slightly unrelated....

adverts on telly being a completely different volume to the film/show you are watching... it's like you've got the volume on X setting to hear conversation comfortably etc.... then all of a sudden, adverts start and BOOM, the windows are shaking.

Get a better TV with a constant volume level setting.

What type of TV you have makes no difference to the volume of adverts, they will be louder than the programme you are watching no matter what because of the way in which the TV broadcast companies broadcast adverts, MTV is the worst for this. Watch a video and than it goes to the adverts, listen how loud they are, especially if it is for an MTV releated show/spin-off, if its louder gets your attention.

I think Scoobs referring to the new TV's that keep the volume the same no matter how loud its being broadcast at.

The same way CD Burner software allows you to normalise the volume of selections of MP3's when they are burnt to CD

exactly

well a) the telly is v. spiffing...so happy go lucky can fuck right off.

b) this may well be a new feature, but it's not one i've seen advertised on any of the dozens of high end televisions i've been looking at, including plasma tv's.... and when i heard about it... i couldn't find any on the net that mention it either, so Nuff Said. as they say.
