DVD? R/RW? +? -? wtf?

can someone recommend a good DVD/R +/- for me please? in this case I value good quality and speed over price. also, a workmate asks me if there are external usb / firewire DVD/r things...anyone know? thanks in advance peeps

Got a pioneer 106 rev D (ide) here at work.
It does rw+ and rw-.
We shuved it into one of them usb2/firewire enclosures(about 100 euro store price) and just hook it up to our laptop if needed, seems to work pretty well

linkage to the enclosures, you just connect an ide drive in them and then use usb2/firewire to connect to the pc, they act as any other firewire/usb device (hotplugable and all)
