DVD-r problems. Help :\

Whelp, I've managed to solve the shut down problem I had on my previous install of XP, but now I can't burn DVDs. Anything I try to do ends in my pc freezing completely. I have no idea what to do, I've just tried installing aspi, no help at all.

Has anyone got any clue what the hell is going on? I'm going quite quite mad. Again, I'm on irc as nath, if you've got an idea and you're on irc, message me (plz!)

Cheers :|

First impressions would be a conflict on the IDE controller somewhere. What MB, channels, brand etc are you using for your DVD-R.

I've used several Pioneers and Sony without problem, it shouldn't be too difficult to iron out.

OK, just a few things.

ABIT KT7-Raid. The DVD-r is on a standard ide channel, it was sharing with my cd-r (it was a slave) but I've subsequently changed them about so that the cd-r/dvd-r are both masters of each standard ide channels. I've got a dvd-rom drive that's a slave on the dvd-r channel (primary).

Anyway, I've just done a simulation burn of a cd, just burning a normal file in Nero and it crashed too. The plot thickens.

Any ideas?

(oh, and it's a pioneer 105 and a liteon 24x).

Also, both devices worked a couple of days ago before I started this whole format/reinstall business.

Event viewer has this

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0x70), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

for ever time I've crashed.

Ideas?

if you got and spare/old mobo use the fan off that, open the case up and use a house hold fan to blast the mobo (not ideal but should work) or visit oc.uk they sell either zalman passive heatsinks or the fan on its own

I've ordered a 40mil fan from oc. I went to pc world but they only have 60/80 mils :|

I really hope this is what's causing the problem, I'll be completely lost if it isn't.
