DVD image tearing (interlacing?)

All,

I've not had this problem before, and i've not changed any settings (Except for a fresh install of XP Pro.... so probably a lot has changed :p).

Whenever i play DVD's in Media Player 9, i get strange visual tearing when scenes are moving fast. It looks like some sort of interlacing problem, where two frames are being blurred together. It also seems to be missing out every other line on some frames.

Here's a grab from my Dolby Digital test disc "city" trailer:

At the bottom left of the pic, it's really bad - obvious double lines. As i say, this is when things are moving fast.

Can any offer a way of fixing this, or why it's doing this?

Any help appreciated.

What are your hardware specs? Could be either your processor or video card are too slow or you have low RAM. But as you say, you haven't had this problem before so it's not likely it.

Have you tried other DVD software like WinDVD or PowerDVD ?

PC Spec is as follows:

Athlon 2700+,
Asus A7V-266,
512 meg DDR,
Geforce4 Ti4400,
WD 120 GB ATA100 8 MB cache,
Windows XP SP1,
Hitatchi DVD Rom

I'll try different software.

It does look like interlacing...I'd think it was a setting inside WMP 9, though I personally don't use it (or even have it installed;)).

No, I'd personally stay as far away from MP9 as possible (in my eyes, its about 1 step up from a virus).

I use the BSPlayer that comes with the klite codec pack. Its nice (tho got to admit, no idea if it plays dvds)

just downloaded it, fixed my problem! Also, it's much nicer looking than WMP9.

Cheers for that Yaka.
