I'm thinking of getting one soon, after an IDE dvd drive that'll work well in win2k and is hackable

any recommendations?

i want just a drive, thought about getting a decoder card, but then i can't afford it right now :p

that was the one i was looking for as well dammit......

any others at all? i hear that all drives are to be sold region locked these days - is this true?

i got 15 on order, expecting them tomorow
i can get them quite easily.. 89 quid tho for the OEM - so they arnt particularly cheap - got 1 retail box in stock at 120 quid or summut

i don't think any dvd-rom drives are inherently region-limited -- i think that the software decoder is expected to deal with that. i don't know of any dvd decoding software that will do multi-region (the DVD people are careful about who they give licenses to) but there's a program called DVD Genie that will let you tweak settings like region in a bunch of different software decoders, so if you make sure that a decoder supported by DVD Genie supports your drive (follow that? me neither), you should be set for all your hong kong action DVD needs, or american porn DVD needs, or whatever it is that floats your boat.

tis good

use the cinesmaster software decoder and quality is sweet
