DVD drive not working

It can read cd-rom, dvd-rom and cd-r discs ok, but not dvd-video or cd-rw discs:confused:

It is a Acer 16x dvd-rom. I'm sure they used to work, I've just noticed now they won't.

What do you think, is my dvd-rom broken or is there a another reason?

Thankyou

YOu should be able to read cd-rw etc.

From - http://www.benq.com/storage/storage_dvd1648a.html
DVD single layer / Dual layer / 80mm disc DVD-Video DVD-R (disc at once and multi border) DVD-RW CD-ROM Mode 1 CD-ROM XA Mode 2 (Form 1, 2) Photo CD (single and multiple session) CD-DA (4.0-10X at play audio, 2X at data extraction) CD-R, CD-Extra, Video CD CD-RW

So I would say either a driver problem or its broken.

The only drivers i've installed for it were the dos drivers so it would boot of the drive.

Anyone know where I can get the latest firmware for an 'Acer DVD-ROM 16x dvd-rom & 40x cd-rom model 'DVP 1640P'

I can't find anything on the acer site, any suggestions?

whay the new firmware did the trick :)

I hope it stays working. Still reckon the drive is on the way out, now 2yrs old. As I could only read a cd-rw disc after I tried a dvd-video disc.
