DVD Conversion and Editing

I have a DVD from which I'd like to extract a short clip.

So far, I have used Smartripper to convert the VOB, then FlaskMPEG to convert it to MPEG, then VirtualDub to slice out the clip I want.

Anyone else recommend some other software that does a similar job ?

My main problem is eventually ending up with a file that is too big, and having to go back to FlaskMPEG to re-convert it again, it'll be nice to have some resizing/recompressing utility that can get it to the size I need.

Try Gordon Knot, I haven't used for ages but it seemed to be the best all-in-one dvd ripper out there.
