(a) do they make a Duron with 266Mhz FSB ?
(b) can you run 266Mhz PC2100 DDR SDRAM at 200Mhz ?

Been too long out of touch with this stuff, I need some sort of confirmation :)

a.) No. Maybe later but not yet.
b.) Yes.

But you could unlock the multiplier on the Duron to make it a 266MHz one :)

Or... Just get an Athlon. They ain't that much more :)

As far as I'm aware, you only see real performance increase with DDR when using an Athlon XP. As these make more use of the available bandwidth. Athlons will use DDR but not to the same extent

So as for a DURON... maybe you should consider buying more cheaper ram instead? Like 512Mb of SDRAM? Or go for an Athlon or more preferably an XP!

YES, but m8 what a waste! I mean DDR ram is hardly cheap! you want to run it at its best to get the value from it!!!

Okay, first thanks for replies.

I was thinking of getting an nForce motherboard (for the kids), they only have DDR SDRAM slots, so if I wanted to get a Duron I be restricted to 200Mhz FSB. It'll be a waste buying PC1600, I'd prefer to get PC2100 if I can and run it at the slower speed.

BTW, an 800Mhz Duron is available for around £40, the slowest Athlon available is 1.1Ghz and costs twice as much, and the slowest XP is a 1500+ model and costs over £100, hence my preference for a Duron.
