Today I bought a new shotgun. It's a Mossburg pump action 12 guage, and heres a picture of it -

Its pretty tatty, but looks like it might do up ok, and anyway cycling a pump action sounds really cool so its all good lol :)
Anyway, the point of it is, I bought it off a bloke for forty quid :) Cant be bad!

Bollocks it never works :(

You missed a ] after the "[IMG", and your trying to use Yahoo for images which is just silly. Try imageshack.us if youve nothing better available.

Well...it's good but...it's no double barreled remington, S-Mart's top of the line made by the fine folks in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that has cobalt blue steel, hickory stock, and a hair trigger and retails at 109.95 :(

badgers are a fucking menace at the moment. There should be a bounty like there used to be (still is technically) for grey squirrels. At least until this crappy TB outburst has died down anyway.

I shoot clay pigeons at a club, and sometimes I shoot wood pigeons at a famr to protect crops. Im not a hate-all-ceatures bloke, quite the reverse, I like to go out for the day in the fields and take a pigeon or two, but thats all. Its all part of nature innit guv :)
I have shot pheasants, but I always feel sorry for the clueless buggers, so ive stopped that. The only reason I would shoot a pheasant now is if I was going to eat it, but my wife thinks everything has avian flu at the moment so that idea's on ice lol :) Its not like wood pigeons, who fly very fast indeed and are quite difficult. Its great out in the countryside on my own for a bit, I love it.
As far as I know theres no correlation proved between badgers and TB, and they are certainly a protected species

Clay Pigeon shoots are fun but agree no challenge in pheasants they have been bred stupid. Even my choc brown lab got fed up chasing them when we lived in deepest darkest Hampshire.

Mate took me on a night shoot for rabits at a local farm once - no fun either. Turn spotlight on rabbit - rabbit looks up and stays tranfixed - rabbit gets shot.

Nice gun though.

Yeah I dont get the point of lamping as a "sporting" thing, though I can see the point if its a job that needs to be done in order to retain some of your crops :) If I shot 20 rabbits Id be sad I think, particularly as id know there would be less to go for later. The most I have ever shot in an outing is 2, and that was only once heh.
To go back to the gun, Im thinking of getting the barrel shorted, its a 30" job which will work pretty well I reckon, (its full choke!) but looks loooong!

cheers for the info :) how will getting the barrel shortened benefit you? you'll have to forgive me, I know nothing about guns, and films have tought me that shortening barrels are for robbing banks :)

Most American pump actions are 26" barrels, mine is 30". Basically, the shorter barrel will, err, look better :)
(I may not do it if it effects the performance too much :) )

The shorter the barrel the greater the spread iirc.

I am just going off what my dad told me.

I fired an american pump action shotgun once with slugs(lumps of lead rather that lead shot), that bastard had some kick, it bounced off my shoulder and hit me in the nose and broke it :(

My dad laughed his tits off.

Slug guns are unfortunately only for full FAC bloke now, not ordinary shotgun chaps like me. I know because I wanted to get one lol :)

So do "slug guns", they fire those little white pellets which the slugs eat and get poisoned.

All cartridges fire lots of little balls, the shot size you choose decides how many in each shot, EG.
Generally size 7 to 8 is used for clay pigeon, and 5 or 6 for wood pigeon etc.
I bought some of the BB size the other day for a laugh, they have double the charge and kick like a mule :D
The slugs are a specific thing, like a big sabot bullet, id love to have em personally. The interesting thing is, the slug itself is rifled, rather than the barrell of the gun.
