Duelling for flags

Is it just me, or does anyone else find this 'duel for the flag?' attitude (that seems to be on pretty much all public servers atm) really annoying? If theres been like a 10 min siege, then sure, go offensive and risk losing the flag while trying to get yer own back, but ffs, dont expect every1 else on the server to stand around and watch you playing deathmatch in a *team game*. Returning the flag, is as much a part of the game as getting it in the first place... dont spoil other ppls fun just because it seems to be *the thing to do* at the moment.

I was playing today, we were 1 up and it was a seige (it had just started). The holder on our team requested a duel with the enemy holder (who had 1/2 his ping). They had one, he lost then left the server and we went on to go a few caps down and lose.

I think dueling is a good idea if the game deadlocks for more than 5-10 mins, and there is no sign of a defence weakening. If a duel is offered and one player does'nt fancy his chances he should give it to someone else in his team who he thinks can win it, perhaps picking someone with a similar ping.

Some tribes maps look great but the bases are 2 easy to defend. When you get sides with many defenders and the flags are taken, the game just dies. If dueling is'nt an option cause your team suk, then dropping flags is the other option.

I agree with Jaffa on this one,
The whole point of flag-duelling isn't to stop other peoples fun, but to cease an otherwise boring deadlock.

I agree with Alco that "dueling for flags" is pretty silly in a team game. However, people are impatient and well, it *is* tedious to wait around in the basement

Why not drop flags and wait for them to return instead of dueling. That way it doesn't make anyone feel bad, no one waits around for the people to duel, and the flags are simply returned after 30 sec or so. One piece of advice though: don't drop it in an area with lots of traffic.

Yer I do feel that flag sieges are part of the game. A tribe needs to be able to change their tactics mid game, co-ordinate their team to both return their flag and make sure their carrier isn't too vunerable. Then they have to respond when the situation changes again.

On pub servers you can't get the level of co-ordination needed. On some levels, such as IceRidge it's almost impossible to return the flag unless the teams are unbalanced. I think dropping the flags after 10 mins seems a good idea.

However on a pub server you always get someone that picks up the flag. For that matter, in a duel, theres always someone that shoots the flag carrier

.

I would like to say that ppl don't defend enough in pub games. It's a visicous circle, most ppl are attacking you, so it makes defending ultra difficault, so you are less inclinded to defend, etc. As everyone is attacking and not defending you end up with a flag siege, unless the teams are unbalanced of course.
