Dual Monitors

Right, in about a Month, the Extension to the house will hopefully be completed, meaning i can move all my Computer Stuff back into the Computer Room.

Anyway, i have recently found that it will be a lot more resourceful if i dig out my old 14/15" Monitor, and use it for Dual Monitoring, which would be handy for IRC, Browsing the Net/Computer etc.

So.. what do i need, ie, do i need a PCI Graphics Card? How much will one cost? whats recomended?
Also, what Program/s are used to make it work?

Depending on your main graphics card and OS, you normally plug the other one in, connect the monitor, and turn it on. On most newer graphics cards you can assign how the screen is split, and what programs are sent to where.

I've been thinking about this too.

How do you jump between monitors? is it just tab and alt like jumping between windows?

On a rather related note:

My current graphics card (and, I believe, the one I have on order) has 1 VGA-out connector, 1 DVI-Out connector (I think that's what they're called anyway) and 1 S-Video-Out connector.

Anyway, they look like this:

My question is:
Is it possible to get an adapter so I can connect a standard CRT monitor to the DVI-Out connector (the middle one)? And is it worth it?

In general, they just act like one double-width monitor. You move the mouse off the right-hand edge of your left-hand screen and it appears on the left-hand edge of your right-hand screen.

I have seen it done in College, the guys in my class put like 6 monitors all together, was funny.

Well im on a Abit Siluro Geforce 3 Ti200, and im on Win2000 with SP3.

I am sure this card does suuport this Split Screen..

I recently bought a GeForce4 and it came supplied with an adaptor cable for the second monitor. The latest nVidia drivers have a section allowing for dual-monitor setup, and I believe there is a additional utility called nView that configures how the screens and windows are placed.

Gotta have a go sometime, but I have to get hold of a second monitor first !

I have an Old Monitor which would be perfect for a test, anyway i looked in my Geforce Box and heres whats in it:

Right, because the damn Manual and stuff is in french i had to Translate the Contents of the Box:

Graphic Accelerator Siluro GF3 Ti200DVI 2D/3D

This Unitisateur Handbook

CD of installation of Siluro GF3

Cable adapter Mini-DIN 9 pins towards S-Video and RCA

Cable S Video

It always good to have a cheapo PCI card hanging around, almost every time I get mobo problems or during upgrades it seems to want to have a PCI card and wont use an AGP.

I also have a ISA video card in an older machine for really old mobos :)
