I want to talk about pressure to all the ambituous albions amongst you :)

Yesterday I lead a DR with about 30 people.
My raids are always public and all are free to join.
But yesterday I realised that no raid can be held without limits.

The raid started with a delay of 30 minutes because there were always more peeps inc.
Afterwards a lvl 21 char joined the raid.
Plus, when we were half way, others joined the bg, so I paused all the bg so those few could join.

That's when MY trouble started, peeps got demoralised because they did nothing but waiting and for what ? For nothing ...
Pressure started building upon my shoulders and even I got demoralised.
Some left the raid.

Luckily we defeated the dragon eventually, but it took too much time.

In the future I'll try to make the raids go better by putting in a departure time and a lvl 45 minimum to join.
If next weeks raid gives me also too much trouble, I'll have to conclude that I better abandon leading raids for now.

Well we'll see.
Now, i want to thank my guild-mates who backed me up, Stellaartois for taking my place on some occasions ans the whole Belgian community present on that raid :D

you can allways make BG public, and at some limit of ppl or at some time. make it private to prevent ppl from joining. then only way they can join is by getting invitet by you.

just a good advice ;)

If you're announcing your raids you can say that it's a sign-up raid only. choose the numbers you want and lvl requirements and so on. State it all clearly for ppl to know before they sign up. You could also add that if someone that has signed up isn't coming on time you just invite next person on the list. Really simple if you think about it.

I just say what time the raid is leaving, and stick to it, with no going back for latecomers who can't catch up.

It's harsh on the first raid or two, but pretty soon people learn to come early.

If people can't get there for the start up time they miss out. It's easy to feel sorry for someone who's "going to be there in 2 mins.. plz plz wait!!" but you can be sure they will be there early next time if you simply leave without them.

Just make it very clear in the post that the raid will MOVE at the specified time. Then people have no excuses for being late, or can catch up on their own. While it's frustrating for 1 person to miss out, it's more frustrating for 30 people to sit about waiting for them.

I was suprice with 3 random grps we defeat the dragon.
Keep the nice work of that raid m8.
My opinion is to still make the raid open.

See you at next raid.

:D George

I loved it, Random grp and people that did very well in the end. Dragon was dead in ~35 mins wasnt that bad. We had a slight delay at start but was no big deal, would only be a prob for people with really limited time. Think leavers just left for no reason at all, we were already starting when that 1-2 peps left, too bad for them we did it even with 1 cleric per grp. Really reminded me times that peps didnt read the walkthrough before the encounter, thinking there is only one way for everything.

Actually I wasnt disapointed, I quite liked it. I mean why not take a new player in a raid like that? How had the chance at 21 lvl to see how the dragon goes down? Come on, everyone would like to be in his place ;)

Overall I would say briliant work Calea, everything was great. Just start the raid in the anounced time, giving 10 mins max for peps that are late.

yeah I agree with Loranthas!
It was great fun and I didn't mind the lvl 21 char being there. But I also understand people that come on time don't like it when we're waiting an hour for people who are late.

As others in this thread suggested, leave on time the next couple of raids and people will learn to be on time.

cheers,

have to agree with the ppl here saying just leave the ppl behind who cant show.. how hard can it be to luck your char at the meeting point before you log if you know your going to be late? or just start moveing your char 10-20 mins before the raid starts? keep makeing public raids with no limit an the ppl that cant come in time, well thats just to bad for them..

I can see both sides on this. If a few low levels turn up and don't effect the raid then it doesn't really matter. The problem with the dragon in particular is that he gets harder the more people are there, and it's very easy for a level 21 char to get glared at not run and wipe the raid, without contributing anything. If 30 lowbies had turned up there could of been a real problem so i'd say a level limit is advisable, just so you don't have to turn them away after they all turn up.

I was late on the raid as I couldnt leave work in time. One thing is for sure, I wasnt expecting the raid to wait, and when I logged I actually thought I was going to miss the entire thing. I figured with sorc speed a fully buffed pet, a BB running Di and a Friar back up I could catch the raid before it reached Golly and if I died on route I would head home. Was a shock to find people at the start of Dartmoor coming up 20 mins past the start time. Have to say I agree with ppl here... a set time to leave is good +/- 5 mins max and if you cant catch the raid... thats bad luck tbh.

In the end it was well run and most enjoyable. I think open raids should carry on but leave it with the players to make sure they are there on time.

Our group liked the raid (guild Belgae). A firm starting hour would have improved the experience, but for many of us it was the first time we (successfully) attacked the dragon so it was fun. And I was playing a cleric so I certainly wasn't bored during the fight :) If only I would have gotten rps for each rez...
Keep up the FFA raids ! I personally didn't mind the lowbie there, provided he keeps his eyes on the glaring messages. Great fun for him, and gratz on a dragon kill at L21.

thank you all for your posts :)

I'm glad some people enjoyed the raid, yesterday evening I really thought otherwise.
I'll remember the tips for next raid, so it doesn't happen again.

The biggest tip I can give any raid leader ever..

If there's 100 people in the BG, the 95 people who are happy and enjoying themselves will normally be silent. The 5 people who are pissed off will be making themselves very heard.
It's very easy to think everyone is hating it just from reading the /bg now and then.

I hope you wont give up the raids calea, I have enjoyed both raids i attended too.
Tho i must say that i kinda expect people that joining the raid will provide something to help kill the dragon and a lvl 21 wont be helping, more likeley clerics will have to ress the little fellow alot.
What im saying is, sure bring low level ones with the zerg no problem but I would be demorilaized as you put it if a lvl 21 wins the lotto over someone who actually helped on the raid.

regardin the delay part I must say that leave on time is best option. Exceptions if we really need more ppl or something. I dont mind waiting abit longer tho but as long as it wont be something happening every time =)

Been on a few dragon raids in the past but allways failed so Im always up for a new raid with you calea, keep up the good work, dont give up!

I keep getting surprised by people who show up 15 minutes to a raid, be annoyed it's already left and then whine for a rez and grantcredit after the raid has already moved across two zones and done 3 steps :p
